A codestone is a rock, carved with a specific rune. They are used to pay for a Neopet's training course at the training schools in [[Mystery Island]].

There are two basic types of codestone. There is the original type, which bare the runes Bri, Eo, Har, Lu, Main, Mau, Orn, Tai-kai, Vo or Zei, and the more recent design of red codestone, baring the runes Cui, Kew, Mag, Sho, Vux or Zed.

...or as the prize in certain games ([[Tombola]], [[Fruit Machine]]), but can be bought and sold in user-owned [[shop]]s. When they first arrived on [[Neopia]], it was as part of the [[Arrival of Virtupets]] plot, where they were used to decode Dr Sloth's letter. Users were implored to bring one million codestones to [[Kauvara]] so she could unencrypt the message. Now, though, they can be used at the [[Techo Master]]'s [[Training School]] on Mystery Island.

The red codestones arrived after the [[Mystery Island Volcano]] plot. By combining normal codestones in the Mystery Island Volcano, you can recieve special red codestones in return. These are used for training at the '''Secret Ninja Training School'''.

In the game [[Codebreakers]], the original codestones where shown in multiple colours, in addition to the traditional sandy colour. This is the only occasion where this is the case.
