A '''Mote''' is a small being of magical energy taking a specific elemental or environmental form. Most motes are fragile Battledome items with low offensive or defensive power.

Motes are [[item]]s categorized under ''Brightvale Motes''. Motes were originally categorized as [[Magic Item]]s, but this changed on ''(need date)''. Though they are considered items, they are living, a fact all the more true from the [[Book]] '''The Water Mote''', which tells the tale of one such Mote.

Although called a ''Magic Item'', a '''Nova''' is considered a Mote due to it's ability to hold all elements of magic within it, and not just a single one as regular Motes (a fact established in [[Neopets: The Darkest Faerie]]).

All Novas (except ''Grey'' and ''Christmas'') have a wand (which produces 2 of the nova) and a rod (which produces 3 of the nova).
