Using Firefox vs. IE on Neopets

#1 Post by vivian58 »

I've just started using Firefox instead of IE for Neopets and I noticed the option for choosing whether you want Flash and HTML maps was gone. O.o I checked on IE and it was still there. I don't like Flash maps because I can't open new windows with them, and my shop toolbar is currently in Flash while all of the maps are just gifs.

Has anybody else noticed anything different when using Firefox?

both of mine are still .gifs ...

shame to waste the thread so: reccommended neopets links to be put into adblock

Code: Select all

http://images.neopets.com/ads/*
http://images.neopets.com/new_headers/*
http://images.neopets.com/buttons/*
http://images.neopets.com/t/tl.gif
http://images.neopets.com/t/top_end.gif
http://images.neopets.com/t/tlb.gif
http://images.neopets.com/images/homepage_banner.gif

Together, these remove the new toolbar, and a bunch of other useless peices - try it yourself, you can always remove them again if you dont like it, but it basically increases the effective size of all pages.

You'll have to adblock individual adverts from offsite (non-neopets ads) still manually, but there aren't many, and you only need do it once for each.

Edit: put links in code to make them easier to copy paste

I use Firefox but the option for flash or HTML on the explore page is still there, if that's what you are asking.

I find that i can 'pause' flash games (by right-clicking and selecting print) in Firefox, but it doesnt work for me in IE.
Some Shockwave games dont work properly for me in Firefox, but theyre fine in IE.
I find it easier to browse overall in Firefox cos of the tabbed browsing.
Generally I find Firefox easier to use and better, but I still use IE occasionally.

I agree with everything you say, except for the right-click pausing... That doesn't work for me.

I've used both Mozilla and Foxfire. I prefer both of them to IE, mainly due to the fact that IE is subject to a great deal of pop-ups and I hate using a separate pop-up blocker. I'm a heavy research, shopper, game player, so the tabs are the best thing ever for me!
Amazing what one can come up with when one is given a cardboard box and a roll of duct-tape!

I use FireFox, and I've never had any problems.
(Well, I can't load Runescape on it, but that's irrelevant)

I avoid IE like the plague, because I am addicted to tabs. I have always used Netscape in Windows (which I play Neopets on) and either Mozilla or Firefox on my various slower Linux boxes. The ads prompted me to install Firefox on my Windows box and Adblock is awesome. I did find them somehow more annoying on Neopets, maybe they just have more movement than other banners that I am used to ignoring...anyway, with Firefox they are history. :D

I think I will switch to Firefox mainly, the only thing I'll miss is having a little AIM link in the corner but I can always put one on my Windows bar. Also having the Adblock tab on all Flash images now is annoying, but at least it's transparent so it's not that bad.

If you go to tools> adblock> preferences, then click adblock options and uncheck obj-tabs, those little tab things won't show up anymore. They are just there if you need to block flash ads since you can't right click them and do it.

I use firefox, because I generally have several neopets pages open at once (I'm a restockaholic). When doing that, things run much more quickly, because four IE windows open at once sucks up a lot more memory than four Firefox tabs.

I greatly prefer firefox to IE in pretty much all regards, and I've never had a problem with firefox running flash games.

I personally use firefox....it is easier with the tabs, lookes better, and just seems to run faster than IE.
