I like that idea! It does look like a spaceship. Maybe the radiation from the spaceship created mutant bugs? At first I was suspecting that this was going to be like the Galapagos islands... but I think the mutants may be due to radiation.

I think you guys might be onto something. It's doesn't seem to be made of normal metal, though, whatever it is - the Lutari says it's like no stone he's ever seen, and I think he'd have said straight out if he recognised it as metal. And ordinary metal wouldn't cause bugs to mutate.

That makes me wonder, though. Are we even in modern times? If not, would they know what metal is? *headscratch* o_O

In other news, I think that JubJub is up to something. The comic didn't tell us which CHARACTER picked up the shiny object - but whoever they are, why would they 'quickly pocket' it instead of showing it to the others? The JubJub looks like he was the first one through the coded door, and he's got a suspicious expression on his face, while none of the others is looking at him. (And who would ever suspect the tiny JubJub that never speaks and seems to be almost forgotten by the explorers?) ...But then... does that thing HAVE pockets?

My head hurts...

Ooh, I like the spaceship idea too! Sounds like fun. Alternatively, it might be that they mysteriously went forward in time to a point where the human race had grown mighty and then collapsed, leaving ruins of technologically-advanced structures to be overgrown by jungle and evolved-to-be-huge animals. Probably the spaceship idea is better, but the "Time Tunnel" game connection made me think that this is possible too.

Well, since they had a decent sailing rig and professors of archaeology and botany, I would assume that it's no earlier than the equivalent of our eighteenth century, and the human race has had metal of various sorts since way BC, so I'd figure they'd know what metal is and be able to place this if it were any sort of reasonably common metal, given that the party is made up of fairly educated individuals.

That reminds me of Sphere. Excellent book - the movie was utter rubbish. A bunch of scientists find a spaceship. They discover that it was laying on the floor of the ocean for a few dozen years... but is an American ship from the future.

hmmmm spaceship. Interesting idea, I like it. After all, aliens DID build the pyramids----just kidding.

And yes, I agree that the puzzles seem pretty easy, FOR NOW. My bet is that this plot is going to get wickedly evil very soon!!

Hey, now, no spoilers! That's one of the few Crichton books I haven't gotten around to reading yet. :P

On-topic: Argh, no update in the news! I want more plot!

I'd like to think that, if Sloth IS in this plot at all and that the "temple" we just got in was indeed a space craft, that this island is a result of one of his failed experiments - one that got to the point where even he couldn't control it, so he just up and left it. More likely, though, it'll be either the work of a completely new villain who's some kind of mad scientist, or there's some other explanation. Which kinda sucks, seeing as how Neopia has lots of villains already that don't get used. =\

This is old, but so far, the movie I've seen the most parallels with is King Kong (the newer one, directed by Peter Jackson). The part of the island the crew crashes into in the second chapter looks almost exactly like the one in that movie. In fact, they got lost via a terrible storm too. Going further back, there's also an idealistic youth character, and further still the hiring of a boat and crew to pursue a wild dream - though in King Kong, it was to make a blockbuster movie; in this plot, to find an island. A few people mentioned a few splits back, the very beginning is more like Disney's Atlantis. So as far as story goes, it'll probably be a lot like either of those movies, or possibly even The Island of Dr. Moreau (which this plot did make me think of, though I haven't seen the movie) or even Jurassic Park ("Jurassic Park is frightening in the dark, all the dinosaurs are running wild...").

I'm rambling, sorry, but since there's not much going on yet in the way of plot activity (not that I'm complaining, slow's fine with me!), I'm speculating on how the storyline will go - it might be pretty close to one or more of the movies mentioned. I kinda want to see it veer slightly towards The Most Dangerous Game - Mad Tongue Murphy's actually taken over the island, the characters wind up trapped on it somehow, and we have to solve more puzzles and/or fight more beasts in order to help them escape. :P Heh, that's probably way off, guess we'll see later, eh?

Err...sorry for butting in...but I'm just curious....

If you haven't finished the first puzzle, then where would the 'to the puzzle' button link you to?

I think he/she's asking if the button would lead to the deck puzzle or the code one, because we're not clear if you can still do the deck puzzle without the direct link.

I feel so... so... so stupid. Stuck on my second one, but making progress. This game seriously reminds me of that game, you know, Code Breaker, I think it is. With the white, red, and no pegs?

It's based off the real life game Mastermind, which is also basically what the old game Codebreaker and the new game Time Tunnel are. There are loads of strategies on this split and the previous one on how to solve Codebreakers. :)

You're completely right. I should remember not to post when I'm three-quarters asleep. So it must be a weird and foreign metal, or not a metal at all. I wonder whether the Virtupets station existed in that period of history.

EDIT: Two vaguely interesting things in today's news. First is that the new Random Contest is related to the plot. Do you think Lawyerbot's comments might be a clue? 'Movies with Robots are cool! *nudge nudge*' The second is the first question in the Editorial. Specifically, the picture underneath and its caption. I think it's simply referring to the Daily Puzzle, but it's interesting that they chose the picture with the Virtupets station in it, when the user's petpage has some of the same theories as us about Dr Sloth and the plot.
