I don't tan. >_<
It's kind of annoying - my skin is naturally sort of pale pink. If I get out in the sun, I'll burn really quickly, and then just get worse burns until they start peeling. I don't get tanned, just redder and redder.
Meh...I don't really like the beach much, either.

No matter how much sunscreen I put on I always get burned... So I quit going to pools and beaches...
And I'm totally against tanning, but I always wanted to try one of those self tanning creams...

I love the beach. And I would love to tan.
I'm Californian, so I guess I understand the tanning craze. Tans just make people look... better, for lack of a better word. Pasty pale is gross, unless you can carry the ivory look well. Yes, it's a bit silly, but I think that I would prefer to be tan over chalky any day... and napping on the beach is my favorite way to go about it. I can't fork over the cash to get the professional stuff done.
Also, isn't it true that the darker you are, the lesser your chances are of getting skin cancer?

I don't understand it. Those who aren't very pale want a tan anyways. Why do they feel the need to darken their skin further? I don't think that it makes you look any better. Or it could just be me.
Because people arn't very bright.
A lot of people don't really consider consequences that are that far in the future (again because they're not very bright)
Theoreticaly tanning can make you look thinner (kind of like wearing black) but it makes your skin look so aweful -- leathery and nasty
oh and the darkness of your skinn dosen't really affect your chances of getting skin cancer much. I think naturaly having a darker skin colour (geneticaly) diminishes it a bit. But certianly dosen't protect you (the same way it dosen't protect you from sunburn and skin damage). However just being tan on the other hand only means you've laied a foundation layer of cancer.

I'm quite pale. I'd love a tan, but I would not relax on the beach for hours on end. Relaxing isn't my thing, for one - I'm extremely active and hate resting, and two, beaches are annoying. You lay down for about three seconds and someone spills something on you or steps on your stomach. -_- Painful.
I get redder and redder too, Starchaser. I never tan anyway. I'll probably buy a self tanning thingymajig when I can be bothered to go shopping. -_-

I really hate my pale skin so I do tan outside in a chair in summertime

(I don't like sand, so no tanning time spent on a beach for me). As long as I don't lay outside in the sun for more than two hours/day I see no harm in it.
Though I can point out that I think solariums are among the most useless things that have been invented.

Like me, I get really burnt, although I did get a little tan, but I'm still very white...

So I'm on holiday in Spain
We're by the pool. I have factor 35 on (I don't usually need such a high factor in Europe, but I thought I'd make sure since I had no particular desire for a tan).
Kim has factor 20 on.
Guess who got burnt? -___-

Tanning is stupid if you ask me. I don't understand why anyone would wanna lie outside in the blinding sun and sweat their butt off. I do get tanner in the summer but it's cuz I'm outside. My hair gets a lot blonder too. I have a bad sunburn on my face right now. I forgot to put sunscreen on it. It's the first sunburn I've ever had that actually peeled.

Yes, tanning has its risks, but it can be just as unhealthy to be sickly white, especially in a country where the climate is warm. You need some sun, thus I think moderate sun expose (but not heavy duty tanning) is acceptable.
Speaking of fake tans though, there is nothing more disgusting to me than people who fake tan themselves completly orange. Especially during the middle of winter!

I'm not really into much tanning either, but then again, I'm probably a bit of a natural tan myself since I'm half filipino...filipina...something so I guess my opinion doesn't matter
What I'm really upset about however was the time when he had a class trip to charleston, and all anybody wanted to do when we got on the beach was sit around and sun tan the whole time. All the girls sat out on their towels, and of course where the girls go, the boys go. Don't waste good beach/pool time to just sit in the sun, people, because I'm the one who's going to playing in the water all by myself. And that's not fun. Arg.
I remember I had another more relevant point to make, but for the life of me I can't remember what it was

I tan usually a few times a week during the summer, weather permitting. I'll sit outside maybe 2 or 3 hours, listening to music or reading or whatever. I'll go to the beach a few times, go for walks, etc. But do I have cancer that I know of? No.
Plus, I'd rather go outside and at least risk getting skin cancer rather than sitting on my butt at the computer all day long like some people on here do.

I don't really care about tanning. I get tan without meaning to even though I don't go outside much. I wear lots of sunscreen though because I have light skin since I'm Sweedish. I usually get burned on my face, shoulders, back, and chest. The problem is, I get breakouts from sunscreen (or maybe just certain brands). That makes me not want to go outside at all ><.

I don't tan either.
My skin is really pale with a pinkish tinge to it. I don't burn really easily either. Maybe if I just sit there in the sun all day but I don't have the patience for that. There is really no way I have the patience to try tanning anyway.

Tanning is stupid. I've lived in Queensland all my life, so people expect me to have a "healthy" tan. Look, I don't tan.
I burn. I peel. I blister.
Everytime I think about people lying in the sun, I know that at least one of them is going to end up having blisters and peelings and stuff.
And that makes me laugh... the things we do for "beauty".
