Finally a match... Day 6, Matched 2, 10k... Total: 33,000
I experienced my first earthquake as a summer intern and the building we were in jolted, then rolled back and forth for a long time. It was just a small jolt, but the building was actually build on rollers to protect it from earthquakes. A few months after I moved to California "for good", I was renting a room in a house, and also dog-sitting while the home owner was on a business trip, so it was just me and the dog there when it hit. It was a [i]whopper[i] of a "roller" that had to have lasted 30 seconds or more with the bed rising/falling and all the walls moving. Neither the dog nor I were particularly thrilled about it.

Day 6: no matches, 9k
Day 7: same, 10.5k
Total: 40k
Falling behind. But maybe I'll get the BLB tomorrow?
Yeah, I was the expert on tropical storms for my friends here when we finally got one. One friend was asking about filling the bathtub... I was like, we're well above sea level, over 200 miles from the coast, and it's just a TS. Just have bottled water (which we mostly need for water main breaks here).

Day 7, Matched 3, 13.5k
Apparently, Publix decided this week that they would not make any more hurricane cakes. Something about it being inappropriate after last year's storms.
Yeah, filling the bathtub is for if you lose water and need to flush the toilet. Not for drinking. Definitely not for drinking.

The first few storms we went through after we got married, we had various northern family members (on Mr. P's side) panicking about us. I'm like...I grew up with these. We're going to be fine. Chill. I mean, no power is no fun, but it's not the end of the world.

Day 7, Matched 2, 12k... Total: 45,000
No Hurricane Cakes? For shame, Publix. (Ok. I have no idea what I am talking about but it sounded fun).
I suppose being an expert on Tropical Storms and/or Hurricanes is a good thing. It means you've survived them and you're still here.

ETA: Day 8, Matched 2, 13.75k... Total: 58,750
Fri Aug 25, 2023 4:39 am
Day 8: 11,875 terrible luck with the bonus days... On track for a record low?
Total: 51,875 last time for easy math this round

Day 8, Matched 0, 11,875
Day 9, Matched 2, 17k
A search for images for "Publix hurricane cakes" will show you several. Hurricane parties area a thing, too. (Hence why there were cakes to begin with.) Chips and wine tend to leave the shelves of Florida grocery stores just as quickly as bottled water and canned/dry goods. Because Florida.

Publix Hurricane cakes look fun.

Brilliant. Jim Cantore memes just started popping up on my FB feed. We do not need a TS next week. (Okay, so the rain might be useful but the timing is looking really bad for things we have going on). Maybe we should stop talking about hurricanes now. K. Thx. Bye.
Being realistic, this one looks like IF it develops, it'll just be mostly rain. And while we are short on rain for the year...so is a lot of the south, so....go rain on Texas, I know they need it there a lot more than we do. People I know there have been complaining about the lack of rain!On topic: I did hit matches on 3 of the 4 "big" days (but of course, no matches on THE big day) but the second-to-best day I hit a match 3, so maybe this'll turn out to be a decent round? Time will tell...
Siniri, I hope you matched at least something today!

Day 9: 16k and a
Fir Petpet Walkie Talkie Set
Nope. Still on track for a record low.
Total: 67,875 well, the math was actually still easy...
Yeah, I'd not heard of hurricane cakes. I've heard of people having hurricane drinking parties, usually people who live ~50-100 miles inland, and I think it's incredibly stupid, as someone who grew up in a beach town and was once awakened in the middle of the night by my parents to dress to shoes in case we had to quickly evacuate to a local shelter (they messed up the communication and it was too late to properly evacuate by the time we realized it could be as bad as it was, and our neighborhood was in danger of being cut off by flooding, but of course we had to wait until it was safe to travel again, too -- thankfully the storm turned, and we could ride it out at home without being cut off from supplies/possible help if needed).

Day 10, Matched 2, 19k
I, too, have memories of being terrified during hurricanes. The one that sticks out the most is when we were told to leave everything upstairs (toys included) and hurry downstairs to my mom's closet because we were at risk for tornadoes. To this day, I still have the innermost non-window room (AKA under the stairs closet) empty aside from a mattress or two/pillows/flashlights, etc, to be comfortable on before any hurricanes come. We prepare in a sensible way (have appropriate supplies) and don't "party"...but we do try to make it less scary for the kids, for sure...and let them pick out a few toys/stuffed animals to have with them for it!

My neighbors finished their "new" backyard today. Meaning, their pool has been finished (with marble-like tile around it, because that's brilliantly wise to put around the edge of a pool-slip hazard, anyone???) and they've had the "landscaping" worked on for the last week....including some device that is stupidly loud and flattens the ground....because today they installed Astroturf. It looks SO TACKY. Especially up against the marble-like tile. But now that it's done, they're having a party. So I got to wake up to loud noises (that stupid flattening machine) and go to bed to loud noises (their stupid loud music). Yay.

...marble...around a pool. Brilliant... not.
Astroturf gets really hot in the sun, too.

Day 10: 21k (RLB)
Day 11: 19k
Total: 107,875
Better late than never, I suppose. Could still be a "non-glitch" record low.
Yikes, Pickles! I recommend taking pictures of your yard, especially nearest theirs, just in case that plastic lawn causes issues with watershed into yours over time. It will give you proof that their turf is the cause of any damage. (A friend has been dealing with runoff from their across-the-street "neighbor," who is really the developer for the new development behind that house, and cheated the runoff requirements by routing the water under the fence and into that yard. Which makes it a civil matter between neighbors, except they own both properties. (Yes, it was cheaper for them to buy that house and pay the single round of fines they got than do the job properly.) And now my friend is being told that that property's landscaping is "up to code" ( which it would be if it only got water from that one yard), even though they have a virtual river down their street every time it rains.)

Day 11, Matched 0, 18.5k
Day 12, Matched 0, 18.5k, and a Cloud Weewoo
Yeahhhhh they've already ruined part of our yard by flooding it while putting in the pool. Supposedly their pool guy was going to come replace what was needed and never did. There's a lot of stress right now because our neighbor came over this morning and made thinly-veiled threats to Mr. P because he dared to ask if drainage was taken care of. Today has been....not so fun.

#Pickles - Isn't that just fan-dang-tastic? They sound like prize-winning neighbors.
