About the Darigan yooyuball. This is the strategy I use:

Image

Make sure you're player is at the green dot and then place your mouse where the red dot is, and shoot. The yooyuball should shoot into the top corner of the goal. It almost always works for me. I found this strategy in a guide on a petpage, but I forgot the url so I made my own screenie.

Edit: I found out that it works best if you use the 2+2 format. If you use any ohter format, there will be a player of the opposing team on the green dot and you'll have to get around it.

This is my guide, I made it just after PPT went down and I almost forgot to post it now

And yes, I really hate the ice ball.

I score consistently with the Dargian Ball. I swear it's become the easiest ball to score with for me. Oddly enough, I have the most trouble with the darn snow ball.

I always use 2 X 2 formation (clearer path to goal). Grab the ball, run the player exactly on the diagonal line in front of the goal, and let it fly at the halfway mark. No angles, no trajectories. It goes right in. Every time... once you've done it a few times, it takes the guesswork out of where to position your player.

edit: I didn't mean to sound disrespectful to those of you posting the mathematics of the ball, quite the contrary, I am very much impressed by your findings. I just found that tracing the line is the easiest way to put the ball in the net. :)

The Darigan, Faerie and Snow ones are the worst. Darigan and Faerie are too unpredictable, Snow goes too slow.

...I prefer the 1+3 formation though. Makes it much easier to 'pause' the game and let time run out. All you need to do is get hold of the ball first, then all your opponents would stop moving till the time runs out. Alternatively, you could simply go into the space between the opposing players, sometimes, they would also 'pause' in their starting position.

That's especially useful when you're fed up with the ball / match, and want to take a rest during the 3 min. Or when the 9th goal is reached.

Heehee... good point :) I keep thinking I can get that elusive 10th goal (which doesn't count anyway, I suppose)... so I just keep shooting after 9 goals. But why do I keep shooting?? It just makes me mad!! :)

Heh. I've discovered another way you can waste time fairly safely after your 9 goals without having to run around in circles (which I was doing). It only occurred to me to try this last night, which made getting 100 games in yesterday a little easier on my hand (which was cramping).
1) Grab the ball
2) Run around your opponents to one of the corners of the screen either above or below their goal
3) Hold your mouse slightly off to the side of the corner
4) This should have your player continually run into the corner. When an opponent comes, it will knock the ball out of your hands...straight into the corner...and straight back into your hands...continuously.

*Please note, each ball is slightly different, so it's a good idea to watch them carefully until you find the optimal point for your mouse for each ball.

Oh my... I just figured out how to score at Yooyu ball. :D

Never try to hit the net dead center -- always run, at an angle, towards the goal and try to shoot into the corners. *duh* The goalie can't block them. I made the mistake of trying to kick the balls in head-on.

And run directly at the goalie for a fairy and mutant ball -- it curves around the goalie and into the net. Whee!

I might just yet get to level 2.

Before I started doing this, I averaged around 4 goals per game. 4-0, actually. Now I get 9-2 or so. I started doing this because I was so darn tired of my fast computer and that ball slowing me down. I score really well with all the other balls. I'd spend forever trying to score with it, and just threw it at my own goal to be rid of it, but it turned into a regular thing.

The slow ball doesn't really take up too much time - it is easy to get it past the goalie if you shoot from the inside line. I use the space bar to quicken things up (takes out the ball rising up from the centre) and even after shooting 9 goals, I can still have 20-30 seconds left on the clock. I love having a fast computer! :)

I also deliberatly score an opposition goal and get more goals instead of settling for a low score if I am having a bad game. I can score with the darigan, but I use a 3+1 formation and it makes it tricky getting around the opposition, so if I don't feel up to a battle, I just give away a goal, better to score 9-1, then 3-0.

There are also a lot of 'dead zones' in the game this year. After 9 goals, I let the ball go loose and slowly go towards it and watch the opposition - most times there will be a spot where they just stop. As soon as they do, I leave my player there and just let the clock run down.

Hmm... if I'm lucky, and I manage to score a goal every time I try, I usually end up with a minute or so spare time :P I *think* I'm on an average computer though [I know absolutely nothing about the hardware of a computer, despite having studied the subject...and I bought my computer some 2-3 years ago]

Is it really better? According to this link, any win is a win. http://www.neopets.com/userlookup.phtml?user=biggirl123_6_6

I didn't compete last year though, so I am not sure how the extra points benefit the players in the end.

I believe that the Rules for the Altador Cup says something like "the difference in points between you and the opposing team are the number of points you earn for your team" So a 3-0 would be 3 points, but a 9-1 would be 8 points for your team.

Edit:

This is what the rules say "Your contribution to your team's standings depends upon how well you play Yooyuball, with the calculation being based on the goal deficit for each game you play. If, for example, you send a winning score of 4 - 2, you will contribute 2 Yooyuball points to your team's daily score. If you send a winning score of 8 - 0, you will contribute 8 Yooyuball points to your team's daily score."

What exactly are these rankings for?

If you're on the main Yooyuball page or game page, there's a little shield that tells you what rank you personally are. So far, it seems that it only counts wins for your personal shield, not total goals. The total goals goes towards your team's score for daily matchups.

You're undefeated, but DC has more wins :P
the Faerie ball still kills me, but I hate Mutant most of all now. When it was just acting like Fire, Ice, and Faerie, at least I knew which direction it would go when I threw it, even if it curved. Now it can go anywhere it wants. Urrrgh.
