Actually, they have admitted it in the news a few times--when it has been a glitch that's affected a large number of people. And this one did affect a large number of people. They did in May and in June, 2006, when the trading post/auctions were glitched. They also did in November, 2004 when the SDB glitch occurred and they had to do a rollback. THey also did in November, 2003 when the TP fried and all items and nps on the trading post disappeared forever. People got their items and nps returned in the May and June, 2006 glitches. And people who were able to list what they lost and reported it to Neopets in a timely fashion got their items back in the November, 2004 glitch. However, no one got anything back in the November, 2003 glitch. Because the server that held that info basically melted into a big puddle. That one was really sad.
Gee, how do I know all this information? *laughs* I was once dubbed the glitch faerie by Everconfused. Because it seems that if there is a glitch out there, it will somehow find me. And I will then cry about it here on PPT.

Oh no, I'm sorry, sigh_driven. ((hugs)) How did it happen? Was it when you were depositing/withdrawing. Or did you just notice a decrease in nps.
And, I just checked the boards. Lots of people who have been hit with the glitches haven't heard a word from Neo, nor gotten their nps balances restored. And many are still worried about whether or not to do anything on the site right now.
Gosh, if there is a Neopets staff member lurking about, I hope you pass this onto people who can do something about it. Because, it isn't good to have so many people afraid to play the game right now. And I know darned well it is affecting page views, which in turn is affecting sponsor revenue. My guild has been empty for days. One friend who is in the main market is barely playing. A huge negg dealer who is a friend of mine--and who is normally skeptical when people say the word glitch--isn't playing right now. I am a big negg dealer and shop wiz snipe for hours a day and I am not playing right now. And neither are many of my friendly competitors. I am losing about a few million a day in sales, but it is just not worth it to me to risk any more of my neopoints.

Ugh this is TERRIBLE! 
Before the glitch started I was planning some rather sizable transactions, and I have a lot I want to do on Neo, but now I'm not doing anything. I'm afraid to even collect my bank interest.
This is crazy! I'm not too concerned about the 10K I lost, I know many people have lost much more, and I'm grateful I wasn't hit harder. But I want to be able to play the bloody game! I want to make neopoints, buy and sell things, and do all that stuff without fear that random chunks of my NP are going to just disappear! I cant' do anything right now and it's driving me crazy!
Isn't there something we can do? Form a protest? All send letters? Bombard the editorial? It's clear they don't really care about their players anymore. But isn't there something we can do to get their attention?

I think it's pretty safe to play. I've been moving NP all morning, and nothing has happened.

I'm not playing again until a staff member either writes me or puts something in the news about it. Because you can be moving NP's left and right and not get hit at all. All it takes is to be moving nps during that one millisecond when the site decides to "hiccup" like it did last night for sigh_driven. And it probably doesn't happen to everyone moving nps during that one millisecond just to those whose transactions, for whatever reason, are dropped. And it is now the weekend, which means this site is going to be even busier than normal. So, I'd would much rather be safe than sorry. Once bitten, twice shy.

Agreed. I don't even feel like playing now knowing that I can't do anything but chat. Which has become increasingly difficult with lag/blank pages.

right after the site went back up i got my 100k back!!!!!!!!!!!!!
