I agree.

Strange... in the first two he looks amused, in the third he's pulling a sarcastic face and in the fourth he looks as if he's about to smash the table to pieces

I think that this is merely a factor of the artist's rendition.... its showing Hoban from different angles every time because its different people looking at him every time. Other than that, there isnt much changed. His hair is the same.... the ears are the same.... the position of the clothes doesnt change.... Its merely that hobans eyes are shut like a normal aishas in one of them. And you cant see eyes in another because the narrator is facing hoban from the front, so when hoban bows when proclaiming he'll sail the ship into a storm, you only see the hat...

I wouldn't base too much off the art itself.... rarely do they put clues in the actual art, unless its something you are SUPPOSED to be looking for.... not just "his hand was pointed in a specific direction" or "he wasnt looking at the person he was talking to".... thats just the way the artist drew it.

As far as food goes, I think they all appeared to be food lovers in previous chapters. And then all of a sudden it turns out Linae and the healer don't like the food. Maybe it's just supposed to be comic relief.

I just wondered - since they talk about food so much and we have a 'bonju avatar' released with the plot, would it be that we need to find the recipe before the plot can move on (more exciting stuff can happen)?

Someone here said earlier about how the food each crew mentioned for their 'last supper' are different, could it be that the recipe has something to do with the food that they mentioned?

Okay I am too lazy and tired to chop up all my screenies and narrate my thoughts, but y'all can read along to the comic with me with my notes. :)

1) According to the Captain's story, they ate with chopsticks.

2) According to the Captain's story, Linae was slurping noodles enthusiastically with no utensils whatsoever (lol).

3) According to Kentari's story, Linae was jib-jabbering away during dinner, apparenly enjoying herself.

4) According to Kentari's story, Chef Bonju looked suspicious coming out of the weapons room. (Kentari was first to finish dinner.)

5) According to Chef Bonju's story, everyone ate happily with both chopsticks and forks.

6) According to Chef Bonju's story, Linae and Anshu were whispering about something that seemed suspicious.

7) According to Chef Bonju's story, Hoban really does look like he is ready to go somewhere, doesn't he?

8 ) According to Linae's story, she ate with a fork and examined the food with suspicion.

9) According to Linae's story, she whispered to Anshu that she disliked the chef's cooking lately.

10) According to Linae's story, she heard Hoban and Anshu arguing just before the storm, and Hoban looks furious.

11) According to Linae's story, Anshu went below deck toward the end of the storm (presumably to get supplies). She later helped him repair a leak below deck just before the storm ended.

These were the most pertinant parts and summaries, in my opinion. For instance, we already know Linae has a grudge against Hoban, so her story is remarkably bitter. And no wonder the chef conveniently remembers everyone enjoying their food. But there are little bits of time where the whereabouts of some characters is uncertain and questionable.

That Linae sure is superstitious, isn't she? Her mentioning of hexes and jinxes and bad luck rubbing off to her. There's one crazy superstitious gal on that ship. If she's not just Kou-Jong Guru, then I'd guess she were some kind of shaman or fortune teller or something.

Honestly, this new update didn't really tell me much...except that Anshu and Linae are VERY close friends (*nudge nudge*). I'm wondering if Anshu's story will contradict with Linae's story...hrmm....

As for the Captain's comment about "If more Neopians were like you... perhaps we could..." To me, it seems like nothing more than TNT saying, "We wish more people paid attention to the plots..."

Oh, and as for Hoban and his different "looks" in each of the story, anyone else notice how he's NOT pointing in Linae's story? In everyone's story, he's pointing when he says his infamous line. In Linae's story, he's shaking his fist! Ahh...quite a puzzle we have in our hands...

Witness memory

Thu Aug 24, 2006 6:04 am

It seems to that just interviewing the crew members won’t tell us where Hoban could have gone, or why (mostly because we keep getting partial stories >.< )
The journalism major in me is dying from pain/horror at the terrible interviewing skills of “our” character. O_o

(and a ramble because my posts aren't complete without one *laughs*)
I don't know how much actual psychology TNT puts into plots- but as for the inconsistencies there's been a decent amount of research supporting the idea that witness memory declines severely within just a couple weeks of the incident, especially if the witness has strong feelings about the event, or part of the event.
Like in Linae's case- she's so superstitious and feels Hoban is bad luck – so naturally her memories of him would be more negative than Bonju, who displays no real sentiment other than slight exasperation towards Hoban…
And within the couple weeks they’ve been sailing- their memories have had time to move slightly farther away from the truth as they replay the event omitting information they’d rather not share, or embellishing the truth slightly because of their feelings/personalities.

The only new "clue" I can see (and I am not very good at these) is that Linae is the only one that has said that Hoban was steering the ship during the storm.

In Chapter 1, the Captain was steering, but in Chapter's 2 and 3 no mention of (or image) of anyone steering the ship.

Thu Aug 24, 2006 7:02 am

*sigh* and we still have like, three is it? three more characters to talk to?

there's Anshu (ruki), Orrin (nimmo), and First Mate Shumi (scorchio). i'd be really interested in what the last two have to say, since it seems they were the least conspicuous in all the accounts we've gotten so far. Shumi is hardly mentioned at all except in the first chapter where he is almost always seen with the Captain. And then Orrin, of course no one sees him until the morning after the storm, when he proclaims hearing a scream and seeing someone fall off the ship.

hmm..Orrin was in the storeroom a pretty long time, huh? before dinner was even over all the way until the next morning. Aside from the scream and the falling person, I wonder what else he could have seen or heard down there? :battar:

What I really want to know is why TNT stopped the story at that point. Maybe they dindn't want us to have that piece of information yet...

Can anyone circle on a screenshot where I click to get the secret message as Euthe cant state exactly.

Kentari the Shoyru sometimes has hands and sometimes has paws (right word?).

Hmm. Because Linae IS so superstitous, would she go through the hassle of getting rid of somebody and covering her tracks to get rid of some bad luck? Or would she believe that if she did something like that (attempted murder? :/) would she be in bad luck herself.

She mentioned that she hoped no bad luck came off Hoban while working with him on the ship, if she thought even being near him would make it rub off, why not get rid of him altogether and not take the chance? :/

If you're talking about the secret message where you click the captain's eye, it's a hoax.

OK, Here is something to consider. The very last comic panel of the new comic shows Linae and Hoban. I would think that during a storm you would usually have both hands on the wheel. But Hoban has one hand on the wheel, one hand clenched in a fist, and he is looking at the clenched fist with what seems to be a smirk on his face. Also it seems to me his eyes are glowing blue. Significant??? :> o_O :o Maybe! ;)

Thu Aug 24, 2006 3:14 pm

:sighs: what bothers me in the "investigation" is that the character never asks one of the most important questions:

What caused the Aisha to say "you won't laugh when I sail..."? Who was laughing at him? Why? (ok, those are 3 questions, but I'd like to see those answered)

And, to add to the chopsticks/fork controversy... Bonju said he was cleaning the silverware when the captain called.

And, the reason why new plot chapters take long to appear: They must wait the Gaze crew to finish supper.

We all know how they like eating :D
