I've read all the threads and replies, but I can't remember if someone suggested this theory specifically: What if the map that Hoban had on him leads to the Altador Plot prizes?
It's possible...then again, many other things one wouldn't think is possible when it comes to TNT.

The news today speaks of the Lost Desert... maybe the ship will go there next?

Thu Aug 17, 2006 5:37 pm

so, is there anything to do as far as the plot so far? or just a bunch of reading?

Hmm. It is indeed interesting that the news mentions LD one day and the next, Sakhmet City is refusing to load.

I wish they'd give us a hint at how to get the avatar. It'd at least be something to do.

It won't load for anyone. There's a whole thread about it here.

Summary of story "facts" thus far (according to character's perspective):

Orrin - "inventory of supplies"; heard a scream and saw someone fall into the water; claims to be locked in the storeroom during this time

Tuan (Captain) - claims Orrin does not know what time or what portal he witnessed the fall since Orrin was *ahem* in a locked storeroom

Bonju (Chef) - best knife mysteriously goes missing; retrieves carving knife from store/weapons (?) room; during storm cleaned up broke crate near starboard where Hoban was sulking; spoke to Hoban an hour after the storm near starboard

Kentari - inspector of weapons room; first to finish eating; first back to duties; saw Bonju coming out of the weapons room; had trouble securing a brace near starboard which Hoban came to assist with during the storm

Linae - accuses Hoban of being bad luck and of causing the storm (during the storm)

Anshu - whispers with Linae (after dinner, just before the storm) about something suspicious, according to Bonju

So, the Storeroom and Weapons Room must be the same? In the last frame of Chef's story, "our character" notes that Kentari said he saw Chef coming out of the storeroom, but in Kentari's story he clearly said "weapon's room."

Questions:

1) Why was Orrin in a locked store/weapons room after the storm?
2) Why are Linae and Anshu whispering things to one another in secret?
3) What work did Orrin still have left to do in "supplies" and why was Kentari so eager to get back to "weapons" inspection?
4) Where was Orrin during the storm? I don't see him in any frames helping to secure the ship.
5) Why doesn't the Captain screen his crew better before hire? :P

Oh and I don't think they are pirates either; I never said that. ;) But that won't stop ya land lubbers from hearing any less pirate talk. Yar har har!

Answers:

1.) I thought the captian did that, after he slamed the door but I am not sure now because the text to the first chapter refuses to load for me.
2.) They didn't like Bonju's cooking...¿
3.) He still had to finish taking inventory because he came to eat before he had finished and Kenatari wanted to come back I assume because he takes pride in his work and wanted to make sure all was in order (aka workaholic).
4.) He was locked in the storeroom. The captain didn't send the first mate to unlock it until after the storm.
5.) :roflol:

Perhaps our 'character' is smarter than we think. Maybe 'we' are trying to catch Bonju out? He definitely seems suspicious, 'deliberately' leaving out the part where he raids the weapon/store room. Our character probably realised that and said 'storeroom' instead of 'weaponsroom' because if Bonju wasn't nervous/guilty he would have immediately realised that we said storeroom and not weaponsroom.

And the weaponsroom and the storeroom are 99% not the same room because then Kentari would have let Orrin out when he inspected the weapons.

anjuna wrote:Questions:

Because in the first chapter, we see Tuan sending him into the storeroom because he hadn't finished his duties before sitting down to eat

anjuna wrote:2) Why are Linae and Anshu whispering things to one another in secret?

No idea and probably won't find out until either one speaks to us

anjuna wrote:3) What work did Orrin still have left to do in "supplies" and why was Kentari so eager to get back to "weapons" inspection?

Perhaps he had to make a list to make sure everything was in place? Something similar, most storerooms need to be monitored regularly

Still in the room

A question of my own... If they have a storeroom, why did their supplies get washed away?

A question of my own... If they have a storeroom, why did their supplies get washed away?

3) The first panel of the first chapter has Tuan asking if he'd finished inventory. That was the work Orrin was completing

4) Not just in the storeroom, but LOCKED there. Last page of the first chapter we see the captain's realization that Orrin was still down there and he PASSES A KEY to his first mate instructing him to let Orrin out.

5) Maybe they were all friends landside. Remember, the worst roommate is a friend, 'cause if you're stuck with them day-in, day-out, you usually go bonkers after a while. Too much of a good thing and all.

As to the question of the storeroom/supplies...

The storeroom, from the fact that Tuan seems to be the only one with a key (else why would he have to pass it on to his FIRST MATE to release Orrin) seems to be where they store either cargo or the really important stuff (I'm thinking those expensive pictures of the Gnorbu Venus and all).

The supplies, I'm guessing being what the crew uses on the voyage and all, may very well be stored in a non-secure location (as may be less important cargo). Another possibility here is they could've been secure but they were unsecured as part of a plan to create a distraction so were easily lost to the sea

I find that little voice in the back of my head is becoming more and more insistant that nobody went overboard. Orrin heard a yell and a splash... didn't actually see anyone fall in... could have been someone yelling and throwing something in the water (one more object wouldn't be out of place with the flotsam there!). Our missing person could've simply found a really good place to hide (or used an invisibility spell?) and disembarked at a convenient location.

Alas, I can't back up my suspicions. We have four more crew members to get stories from, assuming we do speak to them all.

Which means, if the past sequence of timing is anything to judge by, four more weeks before we get to do much of anything. :(

EDIT: As far as storeroom vs weapons room is concerned, I think they're completely different. When Kentari was working on the weapons, polishing his sword and all, there was no sign nor mention of Orrin. I would think if it were the same room, there would at least be an image of him working.

No, I think they're very different, which is why I noted the discrepancy back when the newest chapter first came out. We're apparently solving a mystery based on using small details to ferret out the wrong story and every little thing could make a difference. Being clumsy with language like that doesn't help in an investigation of this type. Still, same room or not, the Chef was caught leaving something important out of his story which strongly reeks of obfuscation, IMHO!

EDIT2: Hmm... but from rereading the first panel I cited above, Tuan asked if he'd finished inventorying the SUPPLIES. So... maybe they have multiple supply/storage rooms?

I shall try to make a timeline (can't remember half the names tho.) :

Captin locks Orrin in Storeroom (only in captain's version, first event possible)

Hoban says his "Yeah. lets see you laugh..." line (all versions)

Pink person dissmisses it as him being grumpy, wepon master remarks about how that you shouldn't joke about such things, this was probably when Hoban was called bad luck... (last bit is only in the second comic)

Wepon guy goes back to work, Bonju goes to wash dishes.

Wepon guy sees bonju get knife, which Bonju conferms.

storm sighted, All hands on deck called, at whitch time wepon master is about to go investigate Bonju, here I wonder where Bonju stashed the knife, as all hands on deck was called as he was returning from the wepon's room (according to the wepon's master) but bonju said he was about to clean the silverware.

Hoban is spotted twice during the storm, both at the starbord side, one whitch he was to mad to even talk, and the other was when he appenently was much calmer (when he helped the wepon's master)

bonju sees hoban at port railing, Hoban is still seething

bonju talks to Hoban, possibly before hoban helps the wepon's master. Both accounts tell us that hoban was really angry at Linae.

after the storm, the wepon's master says he DID see Orrin during the storm, but the captain tells the first mate to go let Orrin out of the locked storeroom.

Orrin tells everyone about the person falling overboard, they search for Hoban in vain.

dock at kwark Island, mystery island, and faeryland in that order, a very small ammout of evidence points to Skamet City as next destination, but that makes no sence as it is far FAR out of the way, unless they've given up on Hoban and are headed back home.

I know most of this stuff has already been said but it helps me to have it all written out in order.
