The image of the message reeks of fakery to me, only because if TNT had really planted it they would've used a new specially drawn image rather than reuse shopkeeper pictures.

I agree with Anjuna about Hoban having some serious self worth issues. We don't know overmuch about the interactions on the ship before the night of the storm. From the fact Hoban made the comment about steering into a storm I think he has a pretty large amount of grief stored up. Since something as life threatening as a storm on the open sea would take a bit more than a single mediocre insult in my mind. Hoban could well have done it on purpose to punish the crew for being looked down on or not coming to his defence when he's being picked on by Linae. It's possible that he could have jumped ship on purpose out of either guilt, or a desire to escape possible punishment for his irresponsible actions as a navigator.
The thing that gets me about this however, is the fact most ships respect and appriciate their navigator as he does a job no-one else can.
Ah well, just throwing out a few more ideas for everyone to chew over.

I agree that clicking on the eye thing is fake. Mainly because that message makes it sound like pirates, not all people who have ships are pirates, and pretty sure these charachters aren't pirates.

I suppose if I keep going with the thought of Hoban jumping ship out of guilt etc. That it could be the reason the Cyodrake is having such trouble finding him, cause he's hiding.

This rumour was spread around the neoboards because a lot of people don't understand how the comic is made.

I am no expert, but the numbers are part of the code used to make the comic, sometimes when you clicked back to the 1st chapter an error in the code would show the speech bubbles with numbers. It had nothing to do with clicking on the eye.

Another error was the Chefxxx error, where the comic would show the code-filler for the Chef's name (likely before he was named).

That error is completely different from the "secret message" that Euthie mentions. She also does mention the Chefxxx message, but she said that once you click on the eye enough times, this message comes up:

Also, people are saying that Hoban threatened to drive the ship into a storm because people were saying he was bad luck, but that can't be true! They were only saying that he was bad luck because after he said "i'll drive this ship into a storm", the ship was driven into a storm!
I think at least... that's what i got from it.

moop. prizes.

hey can you tell me which eye to click and in what comic is the pisture with the eye?

That screenie is fake, if you change the levels in photoshop a little, you can see that the images were copy-pasted onto to it

Image

This is how a normal page looks like with the levels changed btw

I really like everyone's arguments as to why Hoban shouldn't be a female in disguise.

I still think, though, that the third eating panel shows papers, not just plates (whether the chef is looking at the captain or not). I don't think these guys were using paper napkins. It is funny and strange that there is such an emphasis on eating - that's why I think some clues might be in those pictures. Also, the emphasis on the washing of the dishes is funny; there're no word balloons for the first two dishwashing panels. I can't see anything amiss in those pictures, though.

Since we're nigh on the verge of a split, I thought I would toss out this useless, semi-insightful nugget:

Hoban is the navigator and he took all the maps - he could have sailed the ship right past an island, jumped off and swam for it (or floated away in a barrel) and they would never have even realised it. Especially at night, in a storm, and not knowing when he jumped ship.

SElf-worth, guilt, anger, build up, psychology! I think you guys are overthinking it on this one. Does TNT really expect us to go into psychology to figure out exactly what is going on? I mean, we're not all psychology majors here (heck, the general audience TNT is targetting is barely in high school!) so there's just no way TNT would make it as complicated as you guys are making it seem!

And whoever hopes that we'll have something to do the next time the ship appears somewhere new (which will be when? next week?), I wouldn't get my hopes up. I don't think we'll be doing anything but reading until we've heard from everyone on the ship. That means we've still got the Kougra, the Ruki, the Nimmo, and the Scorchio. So...if this plot continues at the rate its currently going (which is an update a week, more or less), then we'll probably be able to DO something (after hearing all the stories) in a little over a month. *Nods*

EDIT: Oh and I just re-read the comic. The pink kougra looks quite evil and barbaric in Bonju's rendition of what happened. Maybe he has something against her?

Grr... that conclusion stinks! (even though you are probably right)

I knew that name sounded familiar. But are you sure that's who he's named for, or are you speculating? *missed something?*

Absolutely positive. Snarkie posted this elsewhere:

I'm very disappointed that no one discovered the Firefly reference on the Gaze.

SHAME ON YOU!

And don't say you did, but didn't post about it... ya fibber.

That is all.

and later:

I'm not the only one who works at Neopets! Other people name characters (and do tons of other plot stuff), too. Not counting Hoban (which was pretty much a unanimous suggestion by every fanatic in the building), only one of those names is mine. Tons of people contribute. My co-workers are geniuses! For the love of all that is shiny, there's a reason we're called The Neopets Team!

So there you go.
