I'm having trouble with my pc. For some reason, it won't let me click on javscript links. Like if I click on one, it won't take me anywhere. It started when I installed the old Sims game to my computer, then I installed the expansion pack to it, but when I tried to remove both programs, it said I couldn't. So I have no idea whats going on.

i have issues downloading the latest version of shockwave onto my computer.
i access internet through a LAN system, and i'm aware that somehow a proxy server comes into it.
the error just comes up when i click download and says "unable to authenticate installer"
i thought it might have been due to all the restrictions or whatever my college has put on our internet (banning games ect) but they seem to have taken those down for the holidays (for example, normally ppt is blocked, as is half the pages on neopets)
any help would be much appeciated

I have a minor problem with Firefox that I hope I can get it resolved. Whenever I open Firefox, the "bookmarks toolbar" is visible. I want to make it disappear for good. Everytime I open it, I have to go to view -> toolbars -> *uncheck* bookmarks toolbar. It's time consuming. It wasn't like this before. It started doing it around beginning of this month when my computer crashed. This is with version 1.5.0.4. I even tried reinstalling it and doing a rollback with no luck. I think it's a Windows registry error that causes this, but I'm not an expert at this. I have Windows XP Pro, if that helps.

You could try taking all the shorcuts out of it if you haven't already

Could you please post the code you're trying to put into your signature on this thread please (using the code function)? Also, could you post the error message you recieve?
That way, we have a better chance of solving your problem.

My friend is having a problem with her computer lately (Aren't we all?). Anyways, she says that when she clicks on an icon, a small window opens up with commands such as "Delete", "Rename", etc... Basically, what's supposed to happen when you right click on an icon, happens when she clicks on one. And when she double clicks on an icon, nothing happens.
Can anyone help?

Sounds like somebody messed with her Mouse setting to make it do weird things.
1. Go to Start > Control Panel
2. Click on Mouse
3. Click on Device Setup under the Quick Setup Tab
That *should* sort it all out - gimme a nudge if it doesn't
EDIT: I was messing around with the mouse options, and now when I click the middle button in firefox, tabs dont close and links don't open in tabs! What do I need to change?

She said she can't find any "Quick Setup Tab". Do you know where it is?

It should be the first tab, followed by Pointers and Buttons. Shouldn't have capitalised the T in tab
EDIT: Actually I'd advise her not to use this method seeing as it may cause the same problem that I have. Instead just go to the Buttons tab and let her do it manually.
Double edit: I worked out how to change it back.

I'm having a problem turning off my computer. Everytime I shut down, it just restarts itself rather then actually turning off. I have no idea what to do :S

How are you trying to turn it off?
Try pressing Ctr + Alt + Delete and in the Windows Task Manager, go to the Shut Down menu, then click on Turn Off.
You could try going to your control panel, clicking on display, then on the Screen Saver tab, then click on Power...
In the Advanced, make sure that the power buttons shut down in the first box, and stand by in the second.

Hmm I've done all that but it still restarts itself. When I shut down, I usually got to start, turn off computer, then click the shut down button. It does turn off, but somehow it comes back on again without me even touching anything. Ive checked if the power button is stuck, but it isnt.
