I think it started before the item description changed, as a way for ppt members to be able to recognize eachother...

then the description changed later? Or was it the other way around? XD;

Yup this site was randomly named after an item on Neopets, which happened to be the PPT and then TNT changed it so we can have our private lil laughs ;)

I used to have a PPT in my shop priced at 1337, but it always got bought by someone who obviously didn't check the shop wizard so in the end I don't put it up anymore. Pity :P

Have you seen the prices? If people bought mine at 1337, I'd be mildly happy

We put the plushies in our shops *way* before the description was changed. :)

Wed Jun 21, 2006 8:53 pm

I wouldn't say WAY before. The post that started the 1337 movementwas made on Oct 29, 2004 (the day after I turned 28!) and someone first noticed that the description had been changed on November 4, 2004. So, that's only 5 days later.

I assume the description change was made as a result of the 1337 movement.

Yes, I am bored. Why do you ask?

That was when people priced them at 133,700 as a group. The plushies were put in members' shops for quite some time before then, at least before I joined PPT in late '03. Some people priced them as 1337 and such, too (although I always had mine at 100,000 before then, I believe). That thread just started a more unified way to price them. :)

I believe the description change was because Adam and several TNT members actively came to the forums at that time and took notice of the threads complaining about banner ads. haha

What was the origional item description?

If i remember correctly, poogles toys used to be given out from the old game Poogle Solitare? Where can win a normal or magical poogle toy (remember winning a magical purple once before!) once in a while..... so the old one might have been something along the lines of "this xxx toy can be won from the poogle solitare game" or something :p, can't really remember...

I do that too, I like to think it's a sort of anonymous sign thingymebob

If i buy from a shop that has a PPT for 1337 NP i automatically buy it :P (well, after the thing i needed). Its happened a few times :)

farside wrote:"1337" is script kiddie talk for "LEET", which is supposed to be short for "elite". Script kiddie talk tries to use numbers in place of letters whenever possible because they think it looks cool, like "n o o b" becomes "n 0 0 b".

Hey we dont just -think- it looks cool, it is cool. Get with it :-P

actually its not called "script kiddie talk" the language is in fact called "leet" or "1337" check it out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet you should read it. its VERY interesting to learn about a language that is widely used on the internet.

I should clarify. *I* call it "script kiddie talk". A "script kiddie" is a wannabe hacker who can only use other people's (real hackers') scripts to hack. That's where the popularity of this type of stupid-speak really took off: script kiddies trying to sound cool or "leet" and calling themselves "H4XX0R5" all over the place; otherwise good folks of poor judgment who saw their stuff and thought it looked cool. Wikipedia is written by users, so it's not exactly the definitive word on anything. I've been on the internet a long, long time, though I can't say I invented it like Al Gore does  . Sadly, I've just about seen the whole thing, from before the commercialization of the internet to current.

By the way, there's a link to the term "script kiddie" in the related section of your wiki article.
