Umm, well who knows how accurate the article is, but I am pretty sure I remember some confirmation of that by TNT on site.

"Winning teams for each round are determined by the teams' collective wins/losses and the number of goals each individual player scores."

But yeah, Cranberry, that actually sounds pretty logical, too. And such poetic justice for those simply trying to thwart others' honest playing. :)

Well i have now won 8 games this round which is a vast improvement to the 1 tie i contributed last round.
My highest score is now 8-0
I know it isnt the best but im glad i am finally contributing to Mystrey Island

I was thinking... Maybe each ball that is scored may have a corresponding point that is invisibly tallied...

Like Fire-1pt, Ice-2pts, Mutant-3pts, Faerie-4pts or whatever...
(i really think that the faerie yooyuball is harder to shoot than the mutant)

I did it XP though I have no clue why, since I've got a terrible backache and I was just trying to put my mind off the pain.

an easy way to score with the mutant/faerie ball, is to have one forward on one side of the goal, and bring the ball up the field on the opposite side, pass the ball across the crease, and shoot! the goalie isn't super speedy, so this leaves you with an open net. (picture)

Others suggest standing fairly far from the goalie, in the center, and shooting right at him (the ball should curve around him and go in) -- but this only works sometimes, and apparently the quoted strategy works for the IDBer every time. I very rarely get the faerie ball, so I haven't really been able to try. :)

The first one doesn't work at all for me - mostly because I'm not very quick in moving the mouse. Freakishly slow, in fact. But the faerie ball is rare enough that giving the opposing team a couple of goals won't matter in the end - it matters more that I get as many goals as I can with the other balls.
It's similar with the mutant ball - sometimes I just chuck it into my opponent's score cause I just can't seem to score at all with it.

*bummed*

I don't know what it is, but I'm just really, really bad at this game, no matter how much I try.
*sigh* Ah well, maybe I'll get points for cheering for a team that's still going strong?

Yeah, that's how I started out. I just stopped scoring more than one point for few goes - win one, chuck to the goalie - and later I tried doing it properly again and did just fine.
So, yes, it was my fault that Team Terror Mountain lost. :(

Shadow_Twisted, just what Cranberry said. Never throught you were a bad person, or anything, so don't be too harsh on yourself.

The Wonder Weezel - "but will occasionally slip out of a player's hand." I'm so sure that's already a property of all the balls. They seem to slip out of both mine and the opposing players hands for no reason. o.O;

(PPT has been down for me today. :( )

I know this was posted somewhere else but I couldn't find where:

How do you play it full screen?

It would be ...ironic... if losses count for 1/2 point or something (because you are playing) so for each loss they send it it is ACTUALLY hurting them. Irony.... <3

Wow. I suppose I should thank myself for sticking it out for 50 wins tonight, making my total 100, just before midnight. I'd have hated to have been stuck with yet another weird number.

Sun Jun 18, 2006 8:01 am

Did the second round finish already? When I click to play, I come up against practice team o_O

Sun Jun 18, 2006 8:06 am

100 wins today...

Just thought a mod could put this on the first page

Easter eggs in the altador cup

Wait a minute before you submit your scores to see the wheel of monotony joke.

Wait longer and you'll see spyders.

If you score an own goal, you'll see the CRAZY TECHO in super fast mode! Of course, dont do this if you're in the darigan team *hint hint*.

Wah the game is back on guys , its was just a glitch and its been fixed :D

Edit: which means round 2 is still on.

With this editorial, the added information below the scores page and the staff tournament scores we can come a lot closer to figuring out the scoring formula.

Just do your best and submit EVERY game you can regardless of the outcome. Every bit of effort counts!

(And don't worry, [people who submit losses for teams they want to lose] are really only hurting themselves.) ;)

And

The Altador Cup Committee bases scores on win/loss/tie record, point scores, individual performance, and a weighted average based on team membership. Translation: A team with more players has no advantage over a team with less players!

And on the staff tourney:

we still play our tournament the same way you play yours. It just happens that we're the only player for our respective teams. :)

Obviously, the first two quotes mean that losses and ties still award some positive points. What that means is that the personal score of any single player gets added up first with no regard to the amound of games played to get it (which can only result in a positive number), and then added to the team pool, which then gets devided by the number of players to make the team score.

There may be no difference between playing 5 losses and getting one 9-0 win, depending on how it gets scored, but you can still 'sabotage' a team just by signing up and doing nothing, or possibly playing only a single game with minimal score if TNT had enough foresight to put in a tresshold for being counted.

Now that leaves to be guessed at how single games are scored. Looking at the staff tournament, you can easily see that points scored in a game do count because there's matches where both players won all 10 games that still resulted in a winner. In that light, I'd say counting wins/losses/draws seperately from the score at all is unnecessary, as the score already reflects the outcome.

So I'd expect something like:

"Score = 1 + (#ofGoalsYouScored * ValuePerGoal) - (#ofGoalsScoredAgainstYou * ValuePerGoalAgainst)"

With an absolute minimum of 1. The most uncertain thing in that formula would be the "ValuePerGoalAgainst" variable, which might be anything between zero (the way the game works that'd still be effective) and the same value of a goal you scored yourself, depending on how much they want to reward efford over score.

If they do count whether you win/lose/draw they'll likely add unchanging point values for a win and to a lesser degree tie, but if that's the case then they probably aren't keeping track of goals scored against you as well.

So how does that affect us? Well for one thing, I wonder how long till someone figured out they'll score faster by opening 50 game windows and cycling between them hitting "Start Game" and "Send Results" letting them play and lose unattendedly than by playing and winning. But then, I expect TNT will be keeping an eye out for people who send more scores than one every three minutes. :P

Sun Jun 18, 2006 8:52 pm

Someone should try opening two windows, and having the games end pretty close together and see if it accepts two scores less than a minute apart

You shouldn't need to play them at the same time - just send both the scores at the same time. What you just said is impossible for a three minute game.
I'd do it right now, but I have school, so if no one's done it by tonight I'll try it. Hehe. ^.^
