My Theory:
I suspect that since the spellbook was found (9x12) in the archives as directed by the Archivist... and since his message hasn't changed after the discovery of the spellbook... there's STILL something left to do first. Random spells won't do anything right now until we find out what that is...
[/delurking]
But also he doesn't actually state that we need to get a book, just to look for the spell
"He shakes his head. "Of course, there are thousands of spellbooks in there... tens or hundreds of thousands, perhaps. I wouldn't know where to begin to find the proper spell. Finding the coordinates for the correct room, just searching randomly, would be... madness of some kind."
You think maybe it's like the Collector's plot? Maybe we should be refreshing the magic shop looking for a spell to pop up...

Other browsers have the option to install the function as an extra but avant has it inbuilt.
People on the neoboards are getting rather worked up about it, saying its cheating. Although its opening windows you would be opening anyway so it's not like you're deliberately getting more page views than you would have done and giving yourself an advantage....
But if you're worried I wouldn't use it.

I think it was discovered just by comparing notes with the people who'd found their books already. It just happened to always be in a multiple of three.

Right...but whats to say there wasnt a clue? I mean just because we got lucky and found our books, doesnt mean that there wasnt a clue...

All the books found so far have been rin rooms that are multiples of three, starting with 6, so you have 6x6, 6x9, 9x6, and so on up to 21x21.
As for the books themselves, I found mine on a multiple of 3. Mine was room 18x12, book 24. You can input the room numbers into the url at the arcx=xx&arcy=yy positions (xx and yy being the input number).
Once you find it, you should write down the location, as you'll have to find it again to input the spell numbers.
