*smacks head on desk*

I have a feeling I'm never going to find the stupid thing!

just the 15,X and 18,X rooms left to check and after that I'm officially stopping.

I'm going to have to clear the pieces of paper with scribbled co-ordinates all over them and replace them with some biochemistry notes before my housemates get home.

They find my neopets obsession sweet but if they see me with notes it'll be time for the men in white coats.

What does it mean by you can see the notches in the rim? I can't tell how each the rocks is affecting my ceiling...

I got my star data but darks keeps crashing the heck out of my pc if anyone can help me find the coords I will give neo items at this point darks has hated my pc as its old -sob-

I've now tried all spells in the spellbook up to 200. I'm slow - but nothing has come as of yet.

When you go to the hall of heroes, click the janitor, and then click the little starburst to his left (right side of the image), it shows you an image of the hall of heroes through the ceiling - notice that the rim of the hole you are looking down from has some dashes in it. Those are the notches you are looking for.

Think of it like a clock. Each of the verticle lines along the edge (look earlier in this split for a picture) counts as a "notch"

Here's how I did it:

Put ONE rock in ONE gear, note which gear it is and how many "notches" the rock makes the ceiling appear to move. Also note if the "gap" is to the left or the right of the 12 o' clock position.

Find out which gears make the cieling move 4 notches, 5 notches and 6 notches when you jam them with a rock.

When you've figured that out jam ALL THREE of these gears with rocks.

The cieling should be a total of fifteen "notches" to the RIGHT and you should be able to see the clickable spots on the floor from earlier, click on one of them and if you've done things right you should see the constallation lit up.

Hope that helps.

Oh and I know technically the cieling isn't being "opened" but rather stopped from closing all the way but it makes more sense to describe it as "moving"

You cast spell number 7,236.

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a Grue.

Anyone know what the heck is a grue?

The quote is an homage to the Zork text adventure games.

You are in a maze of twisty little archives, all alike. :)

I can see it now: We find a spell that makes the Betrayer's statue slide aside and reveal a staircase. After following a long, dark passage, we come to a wall on which is scrawled "This Space Intentionally Left Blank."

That is... if there IS a different spell.

These Altadorians are really disorganized at best. Between the waterworks, the archives, and this spellbook... none had any useful guide. If I had a library and the archivist had dozens of rooms with books thrown in and not clearly cited and organized, I'd fire him!

I've gone through ~700 spells and all have the same 20 results. o.O

Change it to a multiple of three - so from (6, 6), go to room (6, 9) and so on until you reach (6, 21). Then, change x and y to (9, 6) and go through room (9, 21), then room (12, 6) and so on. The highest room people have found books in as far as I know is room (21, 21).

This isn't completely true... I've just found my book at (15, 3), so (3, 3) probably is the lowest one in stead of (6, 6).

And it doesn't have to be the 3rd, 6th, 9th, .... book, mine was the 10th, so this theory can be ruled out too...

And, one more question. Part of my URL throughout the entire archives is goarch=30c9c. If this bit is the same for everyone, could it be coordinates for the room - I mean if others is, for example, goarch=24c15c or something. Could anybody confirm or deny this?

mine is goarch=85c9 and 85 is not a mulitple of 3 and i check all the books.. the spell book wasn't there...

one more theory down, sigh.... back to clicking through the multiples of 3

WOOOOOOOOO. Finally I found my spellbook. Its weird though, I found it at 15x15 when I know I checked that area twice before...Oh well, at least I found it.

Fri Jun 02, 2006 4:35 pm

ugh...there has got to be a faster way of going through these books

Didnt he say 52143 DISTINCT spells?

Fri Jun 02, 2006 4:36 pm

Gah. If you had to check each of 50,000 spells and you could check 1 spell every 10 seconds, it would take you almost 6 days of checking every 10 seconds to check them all.

So, it's at least barely possible that the book room is random (though I think it's more likely to be a Yurble's toenails type thing) but we can't possibly have to check every spell. There MUST be a clue somewhere.

I've skimmed over the Book of Ages and random parts of the plot looking for any sort of number - to no luck.
