Plushies and toys I don't need, and I can't sell them because they go for about 50 neopoints. Petpets - well, everyone has one, so what makes them so special when you attach them to your pet? Battledome items...eh, they're most likely crud (though the Flaming Oven Gloves I heard are pretty good).

I am aware that Neopets is doing this out of kindness, but I really wish they'd give us some real items instead of 50-neopoint-made-just-for-Christmas things.

Ah, well. I guess I'm just in a 'bah humbug' mood.

The moment they give an item, it becomes a "50-NP Christmas" item. There are millions of people that visit the advent (quite a few go in more than one account too  ) and when millions of an item hit the market, the price will fall no matter what item it is. If you're looking to make some decent Neopoints from the advent, you need to stock up on the one-use cracker/goodie bag items early and hold onto them for a year or two. Then they cost quite a bit.

And they're not going to give away ultra good items, if you owned a Darigan Paint Brush, having bought it for over a million NP, and they gave one out, you'd be angry...

I loved the chia print chairs they gave out last year, i hope this year they have more furniture.

Actually the Advent Calender gives out pretty good stuff. Just that even if the item is worth for example 8k. Due to the large amt of people having the item through the Give-away, the price would drop to almost nothing. Worse of all, some players would sell their stuff for atrocious prices like 1np. Haha! So we really cannot blame them since some players make many accounts and get theitems... It's sad but what can we do?

Advent Calendar is truly 'christmas' when people are selling for 1 np and ya buy them and a year later sell them for 5000NP +

I got tons of two dubloon coins for less than 100 NP when they were given out as an advent prize. I still have quite a few Snow petpet paint brushes. They're what? 12K now?

I don't know what I like better, toys or food. I like them both but I guess toys are great because they don't disappear. I like neat christmas foods though too, I usually buy a lot and let my pets eat some and then save some away in my SDB. I have tons of it in there.

I love the swiss colony magazines that I get every year, even though it was probably three or four years since I ever actually ordered anything. But I love to look at all the boxes of petite fours, cheeses, sausages, meats and of course all the chocolates and cakes. I always hoped neopets would do a food box like that.

I love the Advent Calendar. It's a lot of fun to wait and see what you'll get that day. I've kept almost all of my Advent Calendar prizes over the years, and I have made some good np selling off the extras I bought when the prices were low.

Another thing I like about it is the Advent Calendar is that it's perfect for new users just starting out to get the basics over a month.

Yeah, that would be completely awesome. Those things are just so fun to look at. I never buy anything from those catalogues, but I just have to flip through and check those boxes out before I recycle them.

I agree with the people who are saying that Christmas is over-represented. I would love to have a dreidel or something, but I doubt that will happen for reasons other people have gone into.

Me too! Those were my favorite Advent prize ever, I have so many stashed away I could do my entire neohome in just those chairs. :D

I'm hoping for some furniture (and not as many posters as last year). I don't have much use for plushies or toys, but I can always put furniture into my neohome :)

Food stuff is good as well, some of those christmas foods are incredibly well drawn!

I personally dislike the Advent. I don't see why people like it, I mean it's nice because of the avatar(s) and they release new items but the items aren't worth anything once it's given out and they usually release at least one thing which deflates another items price. Like the first advent calendar released sketch-a-pic and they were unbuyable. They went to 10 np that day. Idk, I just don't see the point in giving out items that are worth a few hundred np every year. Also, a bunch of n0obs always complain about the WOSN joke.

Well think about why people buy advent calendars IRL? It's fun to see what you're gonna get the next day and it makes that countdown to Xmas oh so much more bearable :)

You open the door, you find:

Image

A peppermint basket!

and

Peppermint Soap
Image

And then another day they could have:

You open the door, you find:

A Sock Mynci!
Image
(I wonder if Adam even knows what a Sock Monkey is? Well anyway, it is a monkey made from a sock. I guess only poor kids get stuff like this for christmas. I never got one, but my cousins had theirs for years and maybe still have them tucked away some place.)

But I remember getting these for christmas ever year as a kid:

You find a Tin of Christmas Candy!
Image

And another day they could do:

You open the door, You find:

Twisted Roses: Winter Roses
(All your favorite Holiday songs sung by the Twisted Roses! )

Seasonal Twisted Roses Plushie
(You get a random singer )

And another day they could have something like this:

Paw Print Kit:
This kit comes with paint, paper, frame, and a cute little poem so you can always remember what your pet's paw print looks like.
(Tell me who hasn't made one of these in kindergarden? Well if you haven't the teacher dips your hand in paint and then you put your hand print on the paper and frame it. There is usually a cute poem kind of like this:

Sometimes you get discouraged because I am so small
and leave my little handprints on furniture and walls
but every day I am growing and I'll be grown some day
all those little fingerprints will surely fade away
so here is a special handprint so you can always say
this is how my handprint looked on this special day.
(They could have different designs you would get. If your pet has bird legs it would get a bird foot print. If it it has a reptile foot it would look like that, and the rest would have paw prints. So I guess they'd need one that looks like a bird foot, and one that looks like a hoof and one that looks like a reptile foot and then one that looks like a paw. I don't know how it would know which one to give you. Maybe they can do it so the system knows what pet you have and what kind of foot it has. Or maybe it can be an item where it works like this: Play with Pet:
What kind of foot does it have:
Hoof
Paw
Birdfoot
Reptile Foot

Maybe that would work.

And another thing they could do would be like this:

Greeting Card Kit:
This kit comes with Card Stock, Paint, Pens, Glitter, and everything you need for your pet to create a greeting card. (This would be a one use item and your pet would create a random card. So they would have about six or more random designs that your pet could make and you could pretend your pet was all artistic. Then you could save the card or send to to someone special. )

I think you should have a choice: either a set item, or a random item - and more random than one-in-three.

Mon Nov 28, 2005 2:49 pm

I really hope for an avatar!

I like that idea. Whereby a user may choose between:

Random Item - Have a comfirmed item list of like 50. (So as to make the item rarer and thus more people would instead go for items) Where it rotates. Prices should be same too since AC items are mostly new. This way even if a person get more accounts there is also no point. A comfirmed list would be good too to prevent someone from getting Pile Of Sludge and another getting Dark Battle Duck. ;)

Random Amount Of Neopoint - Same as ^. Fixed amount but have a list of like 10. Must NOT exceed like 3k or something so as to prevent people from choosing the better option of the 2. (:

Random MIXED Neopoint & Item - List of half Each (NP or Item) from ^.

Although this method needs a bit more balancing. It's still a good way since some user prefers pure neopoints to the goodies given out !

Mon Nov 28, 2005 4:05 pm

Does that take away from the point of the AC? The point of the AC is not who gets lucky... its about the christmas spirit of giving and recving. If you want dailys based on luck, play the fruit machine or tombola.
