I'm still not getting it either. I tried a ring vine and 1 np at the neopedia article AND the how-to-draw pages, and then I tried a burnt scarab cookie and 1 np at both pages. Still nothing.

You have to use an actual ring that you put on a finger.

Even something as cheap as a Toy Spider Ring will get you the avatar.
..didn't even know I had that in my inventory, just visted the link and got the avatar. XD So then I went to my inventory and ctrl+f'd 'ring'. ^^":

I just clicked on the link without reading the rest of the post (need a ring in your inventory), and was supprised when I got the avatar. Looked in my inventory, see the scarab ring I took out for the Nabile avatar.
