Suspended.

Fri Oct 28, 2005 6:26 pm

I go to check out Neopets today ... and I get this message when I try to go to my inventory.

You have been SUSPENDED for the following reason:

Contests, promotions, lotteries, FTPs, Wishboards, or raffles are not permitted anywhere on Neopets including shops and guilds. The majority of these are scams to get free NP, items or make people buy over-priced items.

Your suspension will end in 23 hours and 53 minutes.

At that time you will be able to return to the site with your account and pets safely intact. Please make sure to read the Terms and Conditions and our NeoRules while you wait for your suspension to end. You are being given another chance here. Do not lose your account PERMANENTLY by breaking the rules in the future.

I am not doing any of the above things. I did just report 2 people yesterday for doing these things. Is it possible they have frozen the wrong account?

I have World Challnege Maps in my shop priced at 99,995 NPs. Could someone have reported me for that? I just keep them there for looks ... and if someone really wanted to buy it, they could.

Anyway, I'm sending mail to support (I can't get to the support forms on Neopets ... since I am suspended). I'm premium as well ... but I can't access the premium support forms either ... because I am suspended.

Hopefully this will all get worked out.

At least it's only for a day, that's not so bad. Very odd that they got you mistakenly, but unfortunately not unusual. :( I hope you get a reply. It'd be nice to know if they changed the rules about something and there's another mysterious thing we're not supposed to do. o_O

I assume some big plot development will come out today, and I won't be able to participate.

I'll post if I get a reply. I don't want an undeserved black mark against my account to bite me at some future date.

Isn't it weird that you can still access the premium portal, yet you can't actually send a premium user form?

It sounds like it was most likely a mix-up. You didn't tell either of the people you reported that you were reporting them did you? Retaliation is all too common.

Isn't there also a premium support line that you can call? Of course, I would imagine that would mean a long hold or lots of busy signals, but it might be worth a shot.

As for the plot, I doubt there will be anything new before then. Although a lot of the big activities have started on weekends, there is usually plenty of time to catch up. I understand worrying about missing out on being one of the "first" to complete something, though. Because we still haven't exactly figured out what to do with the scrolls, I wouldn't worry to much about it - unless someone suddenly has a breakthrough theory, and that doesn't seem likely to me at this point.

Thats definately what it sounds like, human error.. I wonder if the other 2 are suspended or only 1 of them.. and you got the other one.... Is there a way to tell if someone is suspended?

As for the world challenge maps, they would be just like any other item, many users have items for 99,999 etc in their shops.. so I doubt it would be that.

Im sure all will be well.....

SS:)

No, I never tell people I am reporting them. When I get neomails from people offering to "sell" me their neopet if I just give them <blah> and they will then give me it, or random other scamming attempts ... I usually just send in a report. Perhaps someone actually did lose their account as a result of my report ... and then just made another account to retaliate or something.

If sending reports is going to lead to your account getting suspended, I will just stop reporting people and trying to make Neopia a better place. Are all suspensions actually handled by "real" people? Or do they have some algorithm that does it? If it is the latter ... it is broken.

I sent support an email, but I have had bad luck having them respond to any email I've written (with the exception of a couple of "bad ad" reports I've sent in.)

I just realized I should have sent email from my "premium account" instead of my email listed on my "normal account." They might have responded to it in a more favorable way than just a random email message.

I understand that you're not happy, and I know I wouldn't be either... but it's also a good thing... I don't know about anyone else but it had been months since I'd heard of anyone being suspended and I feared that TNT had abandoned this lesser punishment.

Your suspension has now ended.

Click here to indicate that you understand why you were suspended
and that you have re-read the rules so that you don't do it again!

So, my 24 hours suspension has ended.

I got no response from my email or from my "premium frozen inquiry" form. Being a premium member doesn't seem to actually help in getting a response. I had figured I'd at least get a form letter or something ... but alas, I got nothing. Since I wasn't actually frozen, and just suspended ... they probably just disregared my form.

So, I am suppose to click on a link included in the above message in order to start playing Neopets again. The problem is, I don't understand why I was suspended. By clicking this link, it seems I would be admitting to something I didn't do. I actually *did* re-read through the rules, but I could very easily do whatever I've done again, since I don't know what I actually did.

I see nothing in the rules about having "overpriced" things in a shop. Isn't the purpose of a shop to sell things at the price you are willing to part with them for? Sure, I don't actually want people to buy the WC map pieces I have there ... but if they really want to pay 99,995 ... I'd gladly sell.

I know, I should just forget about it and just start playing again. But I am just a little annoyed by it all. The next time some dumb kid gets mad at me when they figure out it must have been me that reported them ... I end up losing my account by them retaliating. The next time some dumb kid gets mad because I have so much "cool stuff" and I won't just give them something for free ... he and all his friends report me and I end up losing my account.

I realize TNT is busy. I realize there are probably thousands of people either frozen/suspended daily. I had just expected to at least get a form letter response ... but I got nothing.

Just venting. Thank you for listening.

Xena, you have every right to ask (and get) an explanation of exactly why you were suspended. Whether you are premium or not - we're all members and we do deserve ... something.

I know of someone else who was suspended for allegedly having a raffle or whatever ... they were trying to sell a map and posted saying so. Part of
their siggy was a reference to one of the wheels (don't remember which one - but it's one you can win things from) and unfortunately it was mistaken that they was somehow saying people could win a prize by buying the map. It was something really convoluted like that.

I don't recall whether that person got an explanation for their suspension either, but it's something I would pursue to try to get off your account.

At least it was for a day and nothin huge happened. So it isn't very bad afterall... however you have every right to ask for an explanation on what happened.

I really wish they could implement a system that tells you what you posted that was considered against the rules, instead of giving you a generic message and assuming you understand exactly what went wrong.

Ive never been suspended, but Ive gotten sporadic warnings on my chat accounts for things I never remember posting. Half the time the warnings dont appear until the next day when I log on, and the 'explanation' of my mistake never clarifies when or in what post I broke the rule.

If they would include a copied excerpt from whatever post or thread someone got suspended or warned for, it would dually prove that people arent frozen for bogus reasons, and that all reports are checked out by humans for error or revenge reporting like they claim. But, I guess they couldnt implement such a system, since people are frozen/warned/suspended for bogus reasons, and humans are in short supply at the neo-support area :/

the sad thing is hon, by the time you ACTUALLY get a reply what you wrote about is long since over and done with. sigh, I wish the support department was bigger or better or faster as things like this dont deserve to happen to good people

Mon Oct 31, 2005 4:09 am

Did you try calling the Premium number to have someone look into it? A friend of mine had her account stolen, and by calling the Premium number they were able to immediately freeze it and sort it out and get it back to her within the day (including her pet that had been moved). Though we rather think they were able to do that mostly because the person had broken into her neomail.com account so they could see exactly what happened on their end.

Anyhow, talking to a live person is good, sometimes forms aren't read for a few days or what's written in haste might not be clear enough for them to do anything about. You can always access the phone/email contact for Premium, you should have it written down in case you cannot get into your account.

It sure would be nice if they could just c/p what you did wrong into the suspension notice. If it is something that's been misconstrued, it's best to be able to clear your record so that if something happens again you don't have bogus strikes against your account.

Yes, that is very true.

:(

Hope you get it all figured out. That message is pretty scary, actually.

Update:

I have given up on a response, and just clicked the "I understand" link. Yes, by the time they actually respond, it could be weeks ... and I am not going to wait around for that. I want to be around on Halloween in hopes of getting the sidebar this year.

So, I understand "why I would have been suspended" (sure, if they really think I was doing one of the above things ... then yes, I should be suspended) ... but I still maintain that I wasn't.

Yes, they really should just cut/paste the offending thing instead of a generic / all encompassing message. Of course, I suppose they get into problems with things like profanity, etc.

I didn't try calling the number ... I wrote out a rather clear message to them, so I don't think I need to worry about them not understanding it. It was also calm and well thought-out ... so it wasn't a "u guyz R CRAZY!" type of message. :)

I'll give them some time to respond, but I will keep asking until I get a response. I'll use the "talk to a live person" thing as a last resort.

Yeah, I don't want the undeserved black mark against me. Hopefully it will all get sorted out.
