Hahaha...I checked for the longest time as well! I still have all my membership cards too but I have no idea what to do with them.

Yeah, but it was harder to make NP. 100K was considered a lot of money, and you had to save up for quite a while to get that much (now most people can make it in five days playing games, or an hour restocking).
I was really into the games when I first started. I had a boring job at a library and I needed something to distract me. I saved up a bit of NP then but not much; I bought the lab ray and some petpets (I remember being in love with the noil -- I still have mine attached to my battle pet), and that's all I really wanted at the time.

I never knew about the wizard for about a Month after I joined >>; kept putting the items i had at the "Rstimated Value" on the pop up you get for them to choose what to do, keep thinknig How much I would have had if I put them up at what the wizard had.
Got a Disco Paintbrush as a random event my first paintbrush and was too excited i painted my Kau Disco ^^;

I used to price things that I thought were rare at 5000 np because that was a lot! Lol, I sold a split paintbrush for that, checked the shop wizard after and cursed .
I agree that it was much harder to save neopoints back then and I was at the soup kitchen for a while because we didn't have the omelette and the free foods. Ah, memories....

I still feel like a newbie after all these years. Not sure what I've been doing, as I'm still poor and have nothing to show for it. Oh well, at least I have fun:P

As I was introduced to the site by my friend in the early months of '01 he taught me most everything about the site (at least what it had to offer now) But as I look now how Neo has grown, it seems so hard to just start to begin playing these days. Just go to any other "ebil" virtual pet site and look how hard it is to start playing. Ok, so I admit, I'm biased but still, if you look at everything you know about Neo and how to play to make neopoints, it should amaze you. I couldn't imagine beginning as a true newbie once again.

I signed up my boyfriend the other day and it was so sweet! He just had no concept of what things cost on the site, and it was kind of refreshing. We were going through the rainbow pool to pick him out a pet and immediately he picked a grey Krawk. It absolutely broke my heart to explain to him that it might take him a few years to get one.
At the same time, I was thinking how hard it must be just to start from scratch with nobody there to show you the ropes. It must be confusing not to know why you can't make a Krawk on the create-a-pet screen, or not knowing just how far out of reach a grey paintbrush is. I'm glad I'm not a newbie.
I seriously didn't know about the shop wiz for my first 3 months of playing. It was all about the games and feeding omelette to my pretty little uni. I restocked a peach chia pop completely by accident and someone traded me a Krawk. I accepted because it was cute, nothing more. I had fun. Now it's all about the np. I barely play games unless there's an avatar involved.
Now that I think about it, I do kind of with I could go back to where he is right now. Facinated with the simple unpainted pets with their funny sounding names (oh he had a good laugh about those. "Poogle? What the heck is a Poogle?!"). Just playing the games because they're fun and challenging. I'd like my sense of wonder back instead of being so jaded about the neopets world.

Yeah the good ole days. I have been here for WAY too long. I started playing a few weeks after the whole neo started. I remember when half the places weren't there. We only had a few pets to choose from and well it goes on and on. At that time we had no ads and everyone was a newbie.
My biggest memory is trying to figure out if spending 50k was worth it to buy a lab map. As 50k was a huge amount back them but since i got most of the pieces from the Treasure map game I figured it was worth it.
Now I wish I would have stocked up on them.

I used to make my money selling books. Back then they didn't disappear and were incredibly cheap. I'd buy one and read it to my pets, then resell it for about 50 np profit. It's the reason why my pet's have IQs in the 200+ range. I also hustled lab map pieces. I'd play the game, with the locations bookmarked, and sell the pieces for about 1-2k I believe. I don't remember money being harder to make, relatively speaking. Games didn't have a np limit back then and I distinctly remember winning 10k on the wheel at least once a day.
Probably my biggest failure in forsigt were hypno helmets. When I first joined the battledome was still in alpha testing. They gave away scooters and things to the early testers. Real scooters. Anyway, I was doing a job which required me to buy 6 hypno helmets. I turned them in and earned around 2500 np, about 2k or more profit. This was back before anyone thought much of freezing and actually bought weapons based on TNT'S description of them or info in their battlepedia. It still irks me every now and then that I didn't keep a single one for myself.
I honestly don't think I'd stick around for more than a week if I started now, and most of the people I've introduced to Neopets haven't. The entire site is this convoluted mess of links, and if you don't know where to go it could take you ages to find out how to get there. Even when speaking to friends who've spent the time it takes to get the ulitimate level 60 character in World of Warcraft think most goals in Neopets are just too out there for the amount of time you have to spend playing. And no one on dial up and unable to restock would even bother after I'd get done explaining.
