Would the mosquito problem be West Nile, by any chance? If so, don't worry about it that much, just be aware that it's there. One of the teachers at my school got it and just had something like the flu for three days.

If you have a very low immune system, such as an older person or a baby would, then there's a chance, but I highly doubt anyone in his family is that unhealthy.
