ugh, i knew the aladdin thing would come up first thing in this thread...
they are just simlilar, because there are desert themed things in it. Im sure youll be saying its just like land before time if they ever come out with a Tyrannia plot
And look... theres allready three memebers of the desert scarabs shown... and they are all street beggars... they want to make them different.... so one of them has to have the silly aladdin hat... they do where those often around those parts of the world!
And the maraqua plot was nothing like POTC.....
one is.... pirates seeking revenge once they find that a city they once destroyed a long time ago is back.... so they literally go underwater and attack them..... and a totally different set of pirates ALSO go underwater to help the underwater city.
another is...... some ancient pirates who are virtually dead seek the last few coins of their treasure so they can become alive again, and capture a mistress to take her blood because they need her blood.... but its actually the blood of another guy who in the end becomes a pirate, and was helped somewhat by another pirate.
they will be similar in a few aspects... but they are not stealing ideas.
If neopets had their plots BEFORE disney came out with their movies.... we would be saying disney stole it from TNT! Its the same non-fictional info they are writing about, so they are bound to be simliar in some aspects.

I've said it before, but this type of thing absolutely ticks me off. WHY are people so narrow-minded that they can only look for "rip-offs" or "references" where there AREN'T any? A story about pirates battling eachother is not a copy of POTC. A story about the desert, or even a story about a guy finding a genie in the desert, is not a copy of disney's alladin or any alladin at all. Those are generic story types that EVERYONE has done for CENTURIES. Neither of those plots so far have anything in common with those movies other than setting. Don't be ridiculous.

It's hardly ripping anyone off. It's just a blatant mickey take on various known storeys, cartoons and literature. They've allways done it. Whether it's in a neopets item, comic or an actual neopet it's self. They're only having a bit of fun.
And since the similarities are SO obvious. You can't really say they're trying to pull the wool over anyones eyes.
