Actually, anyone who is new or naive could fall for it. Same for people for whom English is not a first language.

Update 12/3/04~Due to mass e-mails coming into mailto:support@neopets.com
please send your application (below) to -removed-. This is Kenya’s
e-mail. She will then interview you further and you may become a Monitor. This
is the first step of four steps in becoming a Monitor.

Please reply with the following information
Neopet Name:
Neopet Password(To verify your account):
Real First Name:
Real Last Name(Optional):
Age:
Why should you become a Monitor?
What team do you wish to be on(See Section 3.14) :

is what it ended with. It asked to send it to a gmail account and asked for your password, and no way in hell am I believing it.

If anyone wants me to forward them the e-mail, PM me or post it here as I'll probably not notice the PM.

whats just stupid if you stop to think about it is that if mailto:support@neopets.com actually was the email address they use for it, the staff member would still use a neopets.com email address, not a gmail one!!!

Sorry, I meant to say people who don't speak English at all: those people who play Neopets in a language other than English.

When you send it to Neopets, make sure to include all the header info so they can track this moron

That's too bad that your account was frozen. :( You might be able to get it back if you explained what happened...

I remember the day Wayne sent that email to you.
Lits, I'm sorry that your account was frozen.
But maybe your story will help other people not make the same mistake!
Dude, I sound like Oprah.

I know of a programme that can send spoofed emails and I have used to for April Fools jokes before (no I did not use it for scamming). I did try sending a mailto:support@neopets.com email to myself and it worked.

The bottomline is, don't trust anything that asks for your password even if the email looks legit.

You should fill out the Forms to report this (and get your account back!)
