Scado:
Scado is an underwater dweller that resembles a coconut. Some Skeith would even say that they taste like Coconut too.

It's rather obvious what the errors are I think...

OK, I give in. Try as I might I can't see what's wrong with that description, except maybe for the random capitalisation on the second 'Coconut'. You'll have to tell me.

I have bolded what I think are the typos in that sentence about the Scado.

I agree with you about the "Skeiths" typo -- according to the pronunciation page, the plural of "Skeith" is "Skeiths." However, the second "coconut" doesn't need to be pluralized. Think of the phrase "tastes like chicken" -- it's the same thing here.

I'm going to get really nitpicky and point out that they shouldn't refer to Scado as "they" in the second sentence when they said "it" in the first. The sentence should actually look like this:

"Scado is an underwater dweller that resembles a coconut. Some Skeiths would even say it tastes like coconut, too."

I'd proofread for them for free! I'm always looking for copyediting work experience.

Just some typos..

People are not perfect so they may have some mistakes. Anyway, there are like so many things in Neopets. They won't have the time to check through and see stuff that is where we come in. Just forgive them at times.. At least we know what they want to tell us even though it is a typo. :)

Actually, TNT do try and fix these typos.

Oops... I assumed that the plural of Skeith was Skeith - you know, like sheep. Eheh, I should've checked the pronounciation page. I, too, would offer to proofread for free, but on the evidence of my previous post perhaps that's not such a good idea ;)

Jeez....no wonder I only got a D for English.

Well, first off, because the misspellings show sloppiness and unprofessionalism. It shows that you don't care enough about your audience to even proofread your work before submitting it.

Second, because some of their spelling mistakes truly are a royal pain in the behind. For instance, you know that there was a mynci toy released a while ago--but you can't quite remember the full name of it. You look up "mynci" on the search engine, on the shop wiz, on the TP, and it just isn't there. Oh, of course. Duh! It's not there because someone did not have the sense to spellcheck before finalizing it as an item. They spelled it "mycni," instead of "mynci." So, now, anytime you want to find that particular toy you have to remember exactly how it is misspelled--or you won't find the darned thing. Same with "Fruit Suprise Rock Slices" and "Brocolli Mince Pie." And, countless other items on the site.

And, finally, it is totally uncalled for because it is so darned easy to catch these mistakes. Every computer has spellcheck. Every big company that produces any type of finished product hires a spellchecker or copy editor--a person whose only job is to look for typos and grammatical errors before the finished product goes on the market or before the public. Imagine how stupid a candy company would look if it released candy with a label that said "Hershey's Choclate Bar" or "Reese's Peenut Butter Cups." Bet the guy who made those mistakes would no longer have a job.

You can't get away with it on a school assignment. You can't get away with it at a real job of any importance--such as in a TV ad, newspaper article, legal contract. And God help you if you do it on a resume. Kiss the job good-bye.

Sure, people make typos all of the time. It's OK in personal correspondence and informal media. But is it really OK to make them (and not just once in a while, but more and more frequently) in a finished product that millions of people will be looking at? Remember, it's not just the Neopets players that are looking at these mistakes, but their sponsors, as well. If I owned McDonald's and saw the number of misspellings on Neopets, I would have to wonder if one of my products wouldn't also be misspelled on the site. Just imagine: McDonald's Value Meal French Fires. Heads would probably roll.

Jurples. The saddest thing of all is that Neopets has a game that makes outright fun of those Krawk Island pirates who are such bad "spelers!"

EDIT: Oh, for those of you who say instead of complaining, just tell Neopets about it and they will fix it. Well, I have. Every misspelled item I have come across. In a polite way, of course. And, none of the ones I have written to them about have ever been corrected.

I have to say I agree with Adam & Morningstar. I have 4 children that I have ALWAYS stressed the importance of proofing their work for both spelling & grammatical errors. My kids (including my sophomore at College) always have A's in English because of their dedication. As a Human Resource Officer one of the FIRST things that caught my eye on a resume was spelling and grammar errors. To me, if someone doesn't care enough to do their best on something as important as a resume then what does that say about their care regarding lesser things?

I understand that TNT is busy and they have many things to do but does that mean lesser things should be sacrificed? (Ahh...hmmmm things such as schools, plots, guilds, spelling...etc). Sometimes a company has to start at the bottom and work its way up to the top again to fix kinks and such.

I LOVE Neopet's and I certainly do NOT envy any of the team members all the hard work that goes into running the site. I'm grateful that they've chosen to do it but there's nothing wrong with pointing out the things that could be improved upon.

Good point. This site is geared, supposedly, to kids. A kid sees all of the misspellings and somehow gets it into his/her head that if a big company like Neopets doesn't bother to correct its mistakes, why should he or she? Neopets doesn't realize the influence it has on some of these kids. If it is OK to do on Neopets, then sooner or later, someone might think that it is OK to do on their college application.

Trust me, I am not a perfectionist harping on good grammar or else--but rather that this is the way it is in the business world and in society in general--and it truly reflects badly on a business to be so unattentive to this type of mistake. Chatspeak is cute and all, but not in the real world.
