With Unot's help, I figured out how to get the winter sidebar using Proxomitron. For this, you need to have the Valentine's sidebar unlocked and set in your preferences (changing it from the regular yellow sidebar requires further instructions that Unot can give you).

1.) Install and configure Proxomitron as per its instructions.

2.) Open Proxomitron, and uncheck everything under "Active Filters" except "Web Page Filters" - leave that checked.

3.) Click the "Web page" button.

4.) Uncheck all the boxes. (Having them checked messes with some Neopets functions)

5.) Click the "New" button.

6.) In the "Filter Name" field, type Valentines to Winter (it can have any title, that's just what I put).

7.) In the "Matching Expression" field, type: images.neopets.com/t/val

8.) In the "Replacement Text" field, type: images.neopets.com/t/hol

9.) Click OK. When that window closes, check the box next to "Valentines to Winter" (or whatever you named it), then click Apply, then click OK. Refresh Neopets, and you should have the winter sidebar. :) But you always have to have Proxomitron running, or else it'll revert back to the Valentine's sidebar.

Edit - I don't know the 'legalities' of doing this, so don't blame me if you get frozen for doing this!

So, would you have to have the Valentine's sidebar? Because I didn't get it... But I'm not that "into" getting sidebars, but I'm just curious! :P

You are merely editing the way the page is parsed user-side. No harm done. You can't be frozen or even detected because of that. Any bonus that would apply to the sidebar won't affect you, though.

Yeah, for these specific instructions, you have to have the Valentine's sidebar. The reason is because the winter and Valentine's sidebars are the same size, while the default yellow bar is a little bigger. So if you only have the default yellow bar, you need to add extra filters in Proxomitron for spacing, which Unot has. :)

Okay. I wasn't sure, I just wanted to cover all the bases, so to speak. I don't want anyone getting in trouble for doing it.

Does it work if you have the halloween sidebar?

YOu know,, that program you talk about is all over my head in computer language, but to me it seems it isnt much different from using neopets sidebar images in making your own side bar anyways.. its not like anyone else can see the sidebar that neopets gives to you.. only you see it. But you are allowed to make your own sidebars in image programs and put them up in your lookups. and neopets does allow you to use their own images when doing lookups as long as you give credit to them, so would they also allow you to use the sidebar images in making permanant sidebar themes in your lookups? Do you understand what I mean?

I'm not sure, I don't have the Halloween sidebar to test it out. If you want to try it, find out what the Halloween sidebar's image directory is (it will probably be something like images.neopets.com/t/xxx [three letters there]). Then put that in the "Matching Expression" field.

So would that overlay/image change work with any set of images...say I wanted to make my own blue set or something, because I like blue? Would I be able to use the program to do that?

...that would rock, seriously. I'd be able to change the sidebar whenever I wanted. ^^

And since they seem to have forgotten about the advantages/disadvantages to a degree (b-day doesn't count), there'd be no difference between using the normal one and using my own...

Yep, you could use it to make your own sidebar. But you'd have to add more filters in Proxomitron. The sidebar is actually split into five pieces, so to make your own, you'd have to make five filters in Proxomitron. It's a little more complicated than using a Neopets sidebar.

The Halloween sidebar is 'hw', Winter is 'hol', Valentines is 'val'.

Wow that could seriously be fun, I'm going to try it out :)

That program will have pop-ups come up then though since Kill-Pop Ups would be unchecked so pop-ups could come up then!

Actually, if your custom sidebar is the same size as the standard sidebar, you only need 2 filters (well, 3 to change the color of the clock, too):
One which changes: "http://images.neopets.com/t/\0" to "http://directory_your_image_is_in_here/\0"

(This works if you keep the same file names as the original Neopets files for your images. If you want to change the name you still can, just make sure the end of the file is the same as the Neopets file name. I used: names like blue1.gif, bluehdr.gif, etc. and my filter reads: "http://yourURLhere/blue\0")

Then you need one which changes the background of the bit of the bar that's behind the clock, search bar, etc. to another image:
<table id=n cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 width=128>
to:
<table id=n cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 background="yourimagename" width=128>

I still haven't made the filter to change the clock color yet.

I threw together a custom sidebar last night and am pretty pleased.

I don't have the source code for the special Neopets sidebars (as I haven't unlocked any) and don't really like the special Neopets sidebars, so I haven't played with filters for replacing the standard sidebars with those yet.

Not if you already have a pop-up blocker of some kind (Firefox comes with one, and you can use the Google or Yahoo toolbars for IE). :)
