Ledi wrote:So Adam, when are we going to get our luck/chance games back? :p

I've got really annoying banners up top, no luck chance games, no halloween toolbar, and no giveaway!

:x

I think they're already back :)

They weren't back when I was trying to go there an hour ago.

And no matter what my country says, I have to 'be from Australia' to get the givaway. And I tried it on an account that has ALWAYS been from Australia too. :x

The Ledi is getting annoyed.

What are you talking about??? Care to explain further?

More information on how HOSTS works, please read:

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

I understood what he was saying, set the HOSTS file to "Read Only" would prevent the file from being edited by unauthorised programs.

just trying to help out here. :D

Just a bit of warning to everyone, you should never follow a bit of advice from a random stranger whom you don't know to be a competent tech support-type person, when altering settings, system and program files on your computer.

Win\sys32 and your Registry are full of essential files that make your operating system run. Changing just one value in the wrong way or the wrong place can result in problems like your computer won't go online, won't recognise that drives exist, or even will kill the Windows OS completely, thus making you reinstall. It's just general sense not to mess around in critical areas..

No offence Nwo, this is just a bit of practical advice. IMO ...This is not something that your average computer users should be into.

Oh yes Quahog is so smart. I am a random stranger whom you dont know to be a competent tech support-type person, when altering settings, system and program files on your computer.

I am out to "make your operating system" stop running. Muahaha. Listen to Quahog Words of Wisdom, he/she/it knows so much.

I'm sort of missing where that was an invitation for you to start flaming sarcastically in response to that.

Guys, really, if you don't know what you're doing, don't edit system files yourself. As I said in my edit (and as it notes in the link explaining the hosts files), SpywareBlaster can manage that for you, and safely.

Now, let's keep this on topic, and drop the issue of editing system files, shall we? I don't want to have to lock what's otherwise a nice civil discussion.

I have norton internet security 2005 running and I don't get the top or side banner or pop-ups on neopets so I would recommend that if you want to get rid of them.

I would be content is banners were limited by age group. Those under 10 don't need to see a pharmacy ad. I don't mind. I'm an adult.

Yeah, they should have some block for some ads. Some kid might click it and end up in a place, and then their parents would question them, and they would probably get into trouble for being on a pharmacy's website.

They should have block for little kids for that spyware thing someone pasted. Some little one could get into trouble for having that on the screen

spyware shouldn't be on neopets. no matter how old you are. spyware is evil.

I think the ads must vary by country because I still only see the one for classmates.com and the hooked on phonics ones as the only outside ads. I've never seen the desktops one, the pharmaceutical one, the weather one.. and I've refreshed loads of times in the hope of seeing one. I'm from the UK so maybe that's why. Anyone else not seeing these ads?

I got one during tombola or coltzan(can't remember) for a viagra type product. I was kinda shocked that on neopets i would see something like that.
