Idea for trades?

Sun Oct 24, 2004 7:31 pm

With the release of avatars requiring the user to hold expensive rare items to get the latest avatar, obviously people are going to be looking to borrow items they cannot afford. And where there are kind people there are scammers who will think nothing of borrowing an item and not returning it.

So my suggestion/question is would it be possible to have an extra button on the trade screen that clearly states that the item is for lending only? When someone bids on an item instead of only having a BID button it could have a BORROW button too and on the accept/reject page for the owner of the item there could again be ACCEPT, LEND and REJECT buttons. That way if both players pressed the BORROW and LEND buttons neopets could keep a record somehow and if one player refused to trade back there would at least be some official record of there being an agreement to borrow not buy the item.

I dont know if this is a feasible thing to code as I admit I dont know much about coding webbies etc. But it seems to me that this would benefit everyone, as people with rare items wouldnt need to ask for such high collateral as there is no risk, therefore poorer people would have a shot at getting most of the avatars.

Sorry if I havent worded this very well feel free to kick me! :D

Unfortunatly Neo does not encourage lending out items for avatars so I don't see them implimenting something like that anytime soon. Any trade or giving items is still considered fair in their eyes and you will always run the risk of losing it (same goes with pets for some of these avatars)

Ah ok then, was just a thought! :)

Yeah, your best bet is to keep the collateral roughly the same value as the item. Then, if it is stolen, you got your money's worth

Yeah, I don't see what's wrong if the collateral is the same value as the item. Even if they decide they want to keep it you can just buy another one.

The thing is, With a collateral so close the the original price, I could just go out and buy my own.

The idea with collateral is you don't have to go through the trouble of trying to sell the item yourself. It goes back to the owner and you get your NP or items back. No worries! *yea right!*

But many times the reason I don't buy the item is because I can't afford it... so there really is no easy way to lend items, which is the way it was intended to be.

I agree. Some avatars are meant to be difficult to obtain. If they were too easy to get then there is no point collecting them, since everyone will have them and there is nothing to gloat about.

I think thats a good point. While in theory I would liike to be able to borrow items safely and cheapy, in practise I think I would be disillusioned if every avatar was simple to get.
