What's this Premium stuff?

I was looking through a few boards here, and I saw a few people mentioning having premium accounts... I've never seen it in the news or anything. What does it do? How do you get one?

I sincerly doubt there is such a thing as apremmium account. Gettnig something higher than a standard, would entail paying, and as it is universally knowin, its a non-pay site. THey might have meant having more items, better pets, so on and so forth, or it could be another scame, trying to get people to pay money for a free site.

There is a way to get "premium" Neopets, but at this time it doesn't really mean much. I think it gives you the power to play some games before they are released to everyone (like the Hannah and the Ice Caves game) and it has something to do with a "portal". I also know that a few weeks ago Donna said something to the effect that Premium users won't have a large advantage over regular users.

there is a premium thing - there's the portal, a toolbar, web-based email (your email would be @neomail.com ) and an ISP (Velocity - Dial Up) - which I believe is only available in the US.

I've gone to the link several times, just to see if I can get JUST the portal - nothing else. But all I ever get is a betatest page and there aren't any available. I don't mean I'd use it that much - I already have a homepage....and I highly distrust any d/l toolbar (too much tracking/spyware in most of them) nor do I trust any web-based email. Besides, I have email with my ISP.

I can't remember exactly how much everything is, I think? the ISP is like $15 a month, the email I've read is around $6 a month - I don't know if that's correct. And I don't remember at all how much the portal is.

According to one of Adam's posts re: the new yellow banner - people with premium accounts will not see the ads.

If you do a search here use the keyword Premium. You will find alot of topics and posts, going back to August. When the magazine had an article about the portal, they did not say that it would cost anything.

I have heard the term 'premium' when discussing an account that is a high profile target for scammers. I have also heard it for the web access stuff (you pay for) which gives you a neopets e-mail address and an access portal.

Lol, I know how you feel, i downloaded everything only to find out after handing over my credit card details that the dial up service isnt available in the uk! Dont think Ill spam them though, would cost a fortune to call from here......dare someone to ask them for the answer to the mystery pic though!!

Premium Neopets is not a scam, and it comes with some pretty cool features. I love my portal, and we get a Space Faerie Scratchcard every Friday. Also I guess you're supposed to get more random events, although I haven't really noticed that as much. You get your own e-mail address (I'm mailto:meowth1982@neomail.com) and sometimes you get random events in your inbox too! I like it, although sometimes I think it's kind of expensive. Then I play Hannah and the Ice Caves again (I'm a beta tester because I have Premium Neopets) and it's all right.

Only premium members get them. It's a special scratch card that we get the URL in our e-mail every Friday. I don't know of all the prizes yet, but they seem pretty cool...like space faerie plushie.
