(can't hurt if you live anywhere else in australia either)
I nearly got suspended for some hugging and ksising rule that I told the media about so i have a phone number of someone who called me (it ended up on today tonight.... do they have nothing better to do?)
haha, that was your school? i remember that, it was a stupid rule anyway
i would be more active about this, but i'm in the middle of mock exams and technically shouldn't be anywhere near the computer, still have 2 to go, applicable and politics *shudder*
i just wish neopets would do something a little more about it, eg. not blocking it for the users who are obviously not 5 years old or something.
and as of now, i live in antartica

go the penguins!

lol

I can imagine how that "Today Tonight" bulliten started.
Neopets promotes gambeling, if you don't feed your pets they go to an "orphanage" and McDonalds owns Neopets.
Just some of the lies on Today Tonight!
That is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen.

The username and pets name of the people in the story were clearly shown and i hate to think of the ammount of hatemail they would currently be recieving.
Its really annoying because not only do i no longer have access to my daily's I also can no longer use scratch cards. grrrr

. This is not acceptable in the slightest!
Edit:
http://seven.com.au/todaytonight/story/?id=16887This is the afore mentioned story. Not only is it untrue its badly researched as well !!!
There is another article now.
Don't know if anyone posted this.

There's a video too, which can be viewed when you click on a link to the right of the article. Apparently, they believe that the pound is the so-called 'orphanage'. Someone in the video says something to the effect of, "They only let you have four pets. If you want any more, you'll have to put one of your existing pets in the 'orphanage'."
While that is partially true, they overlook the fact that you can get up to four gallery accounts to store pets on

Well you have to think of a typical user as someone who doesn't really read up those rules regarding that type of stuff (and wouild be satisfied with just one account)

Here's exactly what she said "If you want to have another pet, your only allowed to have four, if you wanna have another one, you have to get rid of one of your others, and so you know, you'll send him to the orphanage, and they make you feel reallly guilty for it too."
Another quote from the news segment: "I've heard that like McDonalds, now because of all this controversy are going to just stop sponsering neopets and umm, that's what everyones worried about because they are one of the major sponsers and it is a free site."
I really don't think the average user cares if McDonalds stops sponsering, isn't Disney a sponser? McDonalds isn't there only large source of income, and I'm sure they can get more sponsers if McDonalds leaves them.

I find this situation very awful. It isn't like they force people to play games, and some children give such FAKE info. Why can't the media actually play Neopets or something..

Is it funny that the site complaining about gambling on a website, for the public good, has a big fat add for sexy young women smack-dab in the middle of it?

true, and neopets have alot of sponsors, Nestle, Disney, Cereal companies... but they want to keep macdonalds happy as i'm sure they don't even pay for the happy meal toys.. yet it'll get them ALOT of publicity in australia

well its going to look bad if mcdonalds withdraws. it may encourage other sponsers to withdraw to avoid the same critisism, because encouraging kids to gamble has to be some of the worst PR in the world when it comes to kids and parents.

i think someone needs to point out to TT that McDonalds don't own the site, coz a number of times they say stuff about mcdonalds removing stuff off the site, etc etc...
and also, that video is supposed to be 'the other side of the argument' according to the woman at the end, it's soooo not.
it's sooo incredibly stupid!!!

I contacted Adam about this in a PM when he was online, and he responded with this:
Don't worry... it will be sorted out on Monday, or early next week sometime. We had to take the games off to keep people happy but they will be returning when we decide what the best course of action is.
Silly people eh?

So hopefully it'll be fixed soon!

ROTFL!! I found that video hilarious. What so-called neopet players call the pound the orphanage these days anyhow? Was this a new phrase that caught on and I was left out on the memo? The first kid in the article saying it I could imagine, but hearing the adult gamers on the video calling it that I wasn't expecting.
The ad in the middle of the story was funny, but what I find funnier is how this "shock-style" writer loves adding the word Mc before a word to give it "oomph". It's totally McLame, though the author thinks it's McCreative.
Speaking of which, I see they also use the term "pokie" a lot...and that baffles me. Any aussies care to fill this yank in?

Does pokie mean Pokemon or something? I'm just wondering what they mean by that. I'm so McConfused.
And since McDonalds "owns" neopets now (thanks to that great McCoverage by the McMedia making me aware of the change) I demand a new McPet.
I want a Nugget pet with a Barbeque Sauce paintbrush.
McYummy.
I think I'll suggest it in the McEditorial. Right after I'm done putting my pets in the McOrphanage.

You increadably crack me up. You need to write humor articles like Dave Berry does.
I asked my friend that lives in Australia cause I was really confused about Pokies too...he explained it like Slot Machines.

That kind of made my head hurt, I originally thought "scratch card" or "horse bet slips" or something like that.
...I'm just glad they didn't mention Turdle and Poogle Racing. *facepalms*
