And you've been using Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel?

Yes. It didn't work for various programs. Let me try once more, I'll edit this post with an update.

Update: I could not remove 'The Game of Life' from my computer. I have successfully removed Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. On another note, what is Windows XP Hotfix? I see a lot of those in the Add or Remove Programs.

Forgive me if this has already been asked posted before...

But does anyone know how to get rid of a virus or whatever it is that keeps changing your homepage to about:blank ?

I can't even go to some sites without the page going back to that about:blank freaking page.

I've already run norton.. and adaware... they both pick it up.. I delete it every time but it's not stopping it!

So frustrating dernit :x

You may not be able to remove a program for different reasons -- it's uninstaller may be buggy, you may have accidentially deleted it, or something happened to it's registry settings. You can delete the program files yourself, and remove it from your Add/Remove Programs list by editing the registry.

Hotfixes are updates released by microsoft -- stuff that Windows Update downloads and installs. They form a mess at the bottom of your list.

Thats spyware, not a virus. But scan your computer for viruses just top be safe, doenload Spybot Seek & Destroy, it can get some thing AdAware can't, you can get it at this link: http://www.download.com/Spyware-Center/2001-2023-0.html?tag=dir

And also, you mite want to go into your program files and delete any suspicious looking folders and stuff. And try add/remove programs, some spyware and crap can be removed that way.

Okay, thank you. I'll try that.

Many BIOS menus are different. All I can tell you to do is to browse around for options until you see something that switches between PCI and AGP. Make sure you don't change anything else other than that.

OK, I need help.
I usually leave my comp on overnight, and i'm usually doing about 1.5 meg uploads.(P2P)
Most nights, it freezes. My network activity light stays on, but the computer is frozen.

Sat Sep 04, 2004 12:22 am

so your uploading things not downloading them? If your using windows then you just kinda have to accept the fact your computer will freeze once in a while (if not all the time :)). However, if this neve happened before them maybe you overheated ( i doubt it though) or possibly the program you were running came to some faulty code or just hung (happens a lot in 98 :)).

Thats my 1.5 cents :)

While I'm using my computer, Windows will freeze once in a blue moon. I'm pretty sure its not overheating, because i have 4 fans in there. The case temp is.. 65 F. (I don't leech ;)) I dunno.. maybe Emule hangs. It goes away when I don't use it. that must be it.

That's pretty cold for a running computer. Are you sure it's not 65 C?

Sat Sep 04, 2004 4:49 am

that is cold mine averages around 130 F ...

Bad RAM can also cause lock-ups and blue screens of death.

Virus spyware.. whatever :P heh... they both suck
I have all of the spyware remover programs and none of them are helping. Adaware is up to date... it does catch something but like I already said.. the spyware keeps coming back.
When norton caught the program.. I went and found the file and deleted it.. that worked for about 2hrs but once again.. it came back.

I do have hijack this but I don't know how to use it properly.. don't wanna delete anything I'm not supposed to :P heh So any help with how to use it to find the spyware would be appreciated.
