People want to do well in the cup, and knowing the ranks might give them a push to play more to achieve that goal. I mean, normally we get to know the ranks afterwards and the ranks do seem a little steep to me. You'd have play hours and hours a day to get to the top shield. Aren't they stimulating kids to play too much on the site by setting the standard so high?

I was wondering about that as well. After all, Neopets does claim to be a child friendly site, and encouraging children to play several hours a day is not exactly good for them. Of course those who have the time and skills should get better prizes, but it would be nice if at least the first four ranks or so were reachable by playing less than an hour per day.

I don“t think that it should really make a difference to them whether you play half an hour per day or five hours per day, as long as you come every day. You cannot read any advertisements while you are playing yyb anyways. ;)

I am SOOO HORRIBLE at this stupid game that it's not fun in anyway

I'm pleased with the last update - at least they specified who the top 4 teams are right now. Though I'm willing to bet at least 3 of them will be in the finals. The lowest teams would have to win every single game to have a chance.

And I'm a bit annoyed that Roo Island Team Beanies are unbuyable. I need one to complete my collection :(

Yes! Good! A news article that actually tells us something new. :) Now someone mathematically inclined can try to work out what that means about the weighting of the support games... Please? :D

Anyone want to take a casual stab at the lineup for the last four? I'd go with Roo Island vs Darigan Citadel vying for first place, Krawk Island and Mystery Island vying for third. I've been impressed with the performance of both Shenkuu and Lost Desert in the first round, though, and anything could happen. (LD seemed to spring up the leaderboard out of nowhere.)

I'm curious where all these people who are selling and tradding multiples of the backgrounds are getting them from. What, are other players just not liking thier backgrounds or does the souviner shop sell them (during the breif times that its stocked)

.... Image Lost Desert has been in 4th place on about 90% of the standings petpages for a good while now (I want to say for over a week, but I can't back that up, it just feels like it). Everybody's been so focused on the "top 3" that I guess they just haven't noticed us sitting there for so long. Supposedly we're #1 in MSN, and #2 (with 0 losses!) in SS. Since most people seem to look at YYB and YYB only, I guess that's how we've been overlooked. Our record number of draws weighed us down too, but they still count for something apparently! <end mini-rant> Wasn't directed at you, afyapardess, just the general "omg LD is good?" attitude everywhere :)

I've finally played enough games to be level 4, I'm going to take a break and then try for a few more (just in case it eats a few of my games like some people on the boards are claiming) to guarantee it. I'm going to try to make it up to 50 total SS games (I'm at 43), and then for 200 total MSN games (I'm at 175) after said break. :)

Good luck to everybody playing, wheeeeeeee :D

I'm getting to the point now where Yooyuball's more interesting to watch than play, and by that I mean we have 7 teams who are still pretty close - Roo Island, Darigan Citadel, Mystery Island, Lost Desert, Krawk Island, Shenkuu, Haunted Woods - and at this point, I still feel it's anyone's game. (Remember the MI vs. KI upset? I do :D ) Even though I'm supporting Mystery Island and want them to win, quite frankly, with these teams in the running, I'm gonna be pleased no matter who wins the Cup.

I have to admit, though, I'm doing my part, but barely. After playing both Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger for roughly an hour and a half or so (not an hour and a half each - I mean in total), I just don't want to do any more for the rest of the day. I quit playing Make Some Noise! altogether because a) it was killing my hands - not my fingers, my entire freaking HANDS and b) I would hardly ever get above 3000 anyway. On a GOOD day. WITH the extra key bonus.

Funny how I started off whining about how hard Yooyuball was, and now I'm getting bored because it's getting easy. :P Either that, or I spend the entire 3 minutes trying to score a goal with a Darigan or Faerie ball because I can't quiiiiiiiiite line it up just right. Ah well. Hopefully I can live with my so-so perfomance when the prizes get awarded.

Don't complain about that! ;) If people don't realize you're one of the top teams, they won't play as hard against you. It's tough being on RI this year because everyone's making a huge deal of all our matches and playing extra hard -- last year we were like you guys, kinda flying under the radar until almost the end. It was nicer that way!

Anyway. RI had a tough day yesterday against Darigan, and today's Shenkuu game will be hard, too. Shenkuu is another team that's better than people expect, so I hope the RI players don't slack off.

Take it as a compliment, because that's what it was. :) I haven't been following any of the petpage leaderboards, tbh - they always update later in the day than when I check on standings, so I've done the top few myself each day. And yes, probably overlooked any teams without a high score in that first column. (Hee! Great emoticon!)

I was proud of myself last night, managed to get 50 wins in against Darigan to bring my rank up to 4. I'm on-course again for my Rank 9 target. :) There's something to be said for only having time for a few games per weekday - I'm not burned out yet.

I wonder how the finals will work. Will players in the 12 teams not have anything to do at all? Will the players in the successful 4 teams not be able to raise their personal rank any more, to keep things fair for the other 12? o_O

EDIT:  Darigan thrashed Roo Island this time around. Bye-bye, top spot. The same has happened with the LD. This illustrates Cranberry's point: Darigan underestimated RI in round 1, but this time they took us seriously and look, we get squished.

I've been keeping score to help motivate me to play. A tally marked for each win. Thing is, the Game Achievements table and I differ by eight points for yesterday. Something similar for the days before. Anybody else getting a descrepency in recorded scores?
