I wasn't sure if this was the right place to put this, but...

Does anyone else go to the Gym here? Like, regularly? I just started going to the gym and working out, which is really hard for me since I'm overweight and never been in shape. Any reccomendations? Or even, this is what I do at the gym?

:)

*flexes* Mwahahahaha

I haven't been to the gym in months, not since like August (bad Lass, bad!) >_< Yesterday I was planning on going for a little bit today after school, but they canceled school because of the snow and ice. It would've been way to hard to get over there.

Usually at the gym I use the elliptical machines for 10 mins, then use all the Nautilus machines they have, and another 30+ mins on the elliptical.

Oooh my specialty! (I'm an Excercise Physiology major so we spend all day studying the effects of excercise on the body.)

I haven't been to the gym much recently, but that is because of winter break and joining the hockey team (I'm sore enough from hockey 3 times a week that the gym would be overkill (although I do need to get back for some strength training)).

Anyway, you didn't really say what you do at the gym...

When I go, I stretch for maybe 10 minutes, then jump on an eliptical machine for 10-15 minutes. Then I usually do the nautilus machines until I'm either my muscles are finished or I'm out of time. When I'm doing what I should be doing, I'll have saved 10 minutes for a cool down stretch, but usually I don't. 0:)

I don't know exactly what you do, if it is a class or swimming, then I wouldn't worry too much about it because it is hard to over exert yourself swimming and in a class there is a trained professional there to tell you if you are doing something where you might injure yourself.

If you are doing something on your own (like what I do above), it is important that you know the right way to do excercises because you could get injured otherwise. If you can, your gym might offer something where someone can walk you through a routine once or twice and show you the right way to stretch and use certain machines. Or if you can't do that (it probably costs at least a little money to do that) you can look up most of the excercises online.

Anyway, forgive me if I got a little preachy, it is sort of something that I'm passionate about because excercise can be so much easier than people make it out to be. With a little practice, it just becomes part of your life and you won't even really notice when you pick up your gym bag on Tuesdays.

I'm finally back for the summer, although hopefully I'll spend a little more time away from this screen.

I usually do 20 minutes of bicycling, 10 minutes of weights (nothing above what I can handle) and then 30 minutes of swimming. Then maybe I'll go in the sauna or jacuzzi if I'm feeling like it. I'm trying to lose weight, so the more sweat the happier I am. <_<

That's pretty good. You're doing a little bit of everything and it is balanced well.

Just to let you (or any other girl reading this) know: Don't be afraid to do weight training! There's a crazy myth out there that if you start you'll end up looking like this:

The truth is you will develop a little muscle but we don't have the homones to end up like that unless you spend 24/7 in the gym intentionally building that.

What it really does is increase bone mass (which will really help when osteoporosis kicks in) and increase your metabolism (muscle uses more energy than fat).

I go to the gym at my school on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. And during the week, I work out at my apartment. When I am at the gym I use the eliptical for 30 minutes, bike for 20 minutes, walk the track for a mile (cool down, and use 2 abs and 3 leg machines.
