New avatar for contest? (Pumpkin carving)

Sat Oct 30, 2004 11:08 am

In the news when it regards to the pumpkin contest:

NEW CONTEST - Every week or so we will be running a Random Contest, what you will be asked to do will vary from competition to competition. You may need to write the most bizarre poem, create a Neopets sock puppet, absolutely anything.

This week we are asking you to send in your Neopet themed pumpkins. If your pumpkin is chosen, you could win a snazzy avatar, special item and 2,000 NP!

It was pretty vague...do they mean to carve a real pumpkin and send a photo, or to draw one? I only have one pumpkin to carve tonight, and I intended to do that for the pleasure of my 3 year old son, I don't want to ruin it for him and make it neopet-themed which he won't understand. Pumpkins are VERY expensive up here in the arctic circle, so I don't think I'll be able to buy another one just to enter the contest...

Darn, I feel this will be another avatar I'll be missing. I hope the next contest will be something more "do-able" for me, and won't be once every blue moon. The phrase that they will run it "every week or so" has me skeptical.

Anyone know if it's real-pumpkins only?

well i think if its pumpkins as in real life, thats unfair, since not everyone has a scanner/digital camera. in the past i only remember one paticular art gallery which was themed as real items, and that was just items, not another specific theme like a species. so i think they would accept drawings, but since when have they been that fair with avv related stuff

val, you're quite a good artist, especially with cute little animated images :P so i would think they would accept normal submissions :) it would be really cute to have an animated pumpkin, something like that creepy neogreeting where the petpet gets et. :P *and i spelt et deliberately, terry pratchett fans would get it*

hope you and your son have a happy halloween which ever way you decide to go :) and theres no such thing as too much candy ;) lol

Thanks autechre, I may try to send something drawn in I guess, worth a shot, right? Image

But Halloween here is boring. LOL. ImageThey only started to celebrate it here a few years ago and haven't really caught on...basically it's just another Holiday for adults to have an excuse to party and drink, Image only in this case while wearing a costume. They haven't figured out what trick-or-treating is, so sadly I have to kids to give candy to, and my son doesn't get to go door-to-door either. Image

It's odd, but it's new to them, maybe in a few years they'll get it right. Image

I did see some kids costumes this year, so maybe they are on their way. They only dress in scary costumes though, basically just witches, devils, or skeletons. Image Maybe soon they'll have some "cute" costumes too. Image

I was wondering the same thing.... I'd much rather draw something.
And anyway, halloween isn't celebrated in my country, so pumpkins aren't very common right now.

Good Luck Val, if you do an image, but I interpreted it as a real pumpkin only. I agree, I wouldn't waste money on it. They already have an art gallery, however...

I have noticed several times the art gallery has a theme of real-life stuff, most commonly clay sculptures. Also sewing, food, anything. I feel these are creative, but the way TNT does it now makes it unfair for everyone who worked hard on drawing a pic to enter that week. I wonder if this contest will get those type of things out of the art gallery. I won't even buy cheap clay to make a sculpture...actually I have some clay but can't be bothered :P. *has entered nice drawings in art gallery 9 times and won once*

if you take them literally, then you will be sending your carved pumpkin express mail to glendale california

and halloween isn't much celebrated here either, the one time i did it with a friend, we got this huge lecture from a man about how it was a pagan celebration, blah blah not australian. *sigh* but at least the adults have fun ;)

they mean REAL pumkins...that people actually carved.... and that one wouldnt work anyway, because the pieces would fall out! you'd end up with a silloutte of the brain tree and a couple of squares!

It's a pretty interesting contest though.. hopefully I'll get to try my hands on the future contests..

We don't celebrate halloween here.. much less find a pumpkin.. I have seen extremely small ones sold around in one certain supermarket.. but they are far too small to be carved on :P

I hope the avatar is for every winner of such contests from now on.. like the Lenny Conundrum one so people all over the world won't miss out on them :D

I think they want people to either carve, or decorate their pumpkins in a neopets theme and send in the pics. I doubt that it would be possible to make internet sock puppets.

Maybe instead of carving a pattern in your pumpkin, you could try to find a way to decorate the pumpkin without actually carving it. Maybe getting some material and making a dress for it..or covering it with grey paint and calling it a pet rock.

Yeah.. but this kid named brad in one of my classes didnt actually carve his.. he just scraped the orange off into a skeletion face which looked pretty cool indeed... it wasnt a full carve.. it would have messed it up anyway..

you could explain something like that in your disc. XD

Come to think of it, if the people put the pumpkins out afterwards, the site is basically getting free advertisment...

You can probably carve up a fake pumpkin. At my local Michaels they have these fake foam kind of pumpkins which I assume are carvable. I'm just saying you can probably get away with a fake pumpkin since you have a pretty good reason not to use a real one.

How do you know??? They say "send in your Neopet themed pumpkins". So why would go and make up your own rules? If they don't say "only photographs of real-life carved pumpkins allowed" why would you restrict yourself and others like that???
