How to block the ads at the top of the screen?

I know it's already been posted somewhere, but can anyone tell me how to block the ads at the top of the screen? I just searched and no results were brought up... Thanks in advance!

Personally I'd use flashblock but I'm not sure if all browsers support that...

It is for Firefox, but if you do not use it anyway, I would recommend it. I find it quicker and like the tabbed browsers. I find it safer with cookie control, and adblock is extremely useful too, it can block bottom ads too.
