Is there
anything we can do to report underage neoboarders? There are so many underage users on the neoboards it's incredible. I don't think they should be frozen, but I think they should be banned from the neoboards somehow. For example, edit the report form so that you can fill out a TOS violation report or an underage user report. In the underage user report, you'd have to report a post where they say how old they are - "im 11 how old r u??!" or you could report their userlookup or something if there's pictures that clearly show they're underage or if they have personal info, or something like that. A Neopets monitor would then neoboard ban the user until they would turn 13 according to their birthday. (Ex: 11 year old person whose birthday is on Aug. 3rd would get neoboard banned until Aug. 3rd 2006)
It's so annoying to go to the "i r8 pics!!!11" topics and see girls who still have pudgy round little kids' faces & still have pokeable little kids' noses, yet who are trying to act like they're 17. Not only that, the kids don't need to be exposed to stuff like "omg r8 my pix" topics and the foul language topics that stupid people use, trying to do as much damage as they can before getting frozen.

But underage neoboarders got parental permission.
There may be some who registered older than they are but how would we know unless they admitted it?

I don't know how much can be done. If someone actually posts that they're under age 13 yet the information given when they signed up says they are 13 or over then something could be done. Of course, there's an awful lot of people who have lied about their age. That would be a full time job just trying to keep them off the boards.
But many people do get parental permission, and that means they can post on the boards. Whether they have any posting etiquette or a little common sense is another thing.
As to the pics and language problems on the boards, well, yes it does make you want to reach through the monitor sometimes, yes? I don't go to many of the boards anymore and I leave quickly. Some are worse than others, though right now seems all of them are bad. I guess because for many, school is out and the computer has become the "baby-sitter".
The pictures I agree are unecessary and in some cases just completely unacceptable. I also think? they're against the rules. You're not supposed to have that kind of personal information - pictures of yourself, LJ, aim/email/yim anywhere. I know someone who got a suspension for having LJ = their LJ name in their siggy. And I have seen people get warnings/their lookup cleared for having pictures.
I think that rule needs more clarification, as the way it reads now says you can't post a pic or say something about another user but to not post a link to your own guest book. It should say something about not posting any of your own personal information.

Hmm, alright, I didn't know that you could be on the neoboards if you were under 13 with parental permission... Though I seriously doubt any of them asked their parents. Still, pictures shouldn't be allowed.

._. I really hate the underage NeoBoarders.
Well, not really, but I hate most of them.
I was frozen because this girl made a board about someone saying the h-word (oh noes!

) and how little kids were on the Web site, too. I told her that you have to be thirteen to chat and if you weren't, you had to get parental permission that said you were mature enough to chat. She then said that no one actually does that, and that she was nine, and just lied about her age. I got into a debate with her about how saying "hell" isn't against the rules, because even those who lied about their ages and were easily offended just had to deal with it.
Then she got about ten of her friends, most of whom I'm guessing were underage, too, to report my post that said, "hell."
I was frozen. And, when I kindly emailed Carmen a Google search of 46 pages of results for "hell" on Neopets, many of them in poetry contests, she didn't respond. ._.

You should keep trying other people on neopets - they use hell themselves in plots, gallery of evil (I think) and in neoquest. Never in my whole life has "hell" been considered profanity. It's like as mild as saying "drat!" or "rats!" even. "Go to hell" is akin to "get stuffed/shut up" but just the word on it own even is ridiculous. I really had no idea it was considered profanity until I saw people on the neoboards talking about it - it seems to just be in parts of the US?
Just, meh. How utterly annoying and stupid. I doubt all people at tnt would think it was worth a freezing though, don't give up!

I kept to my age when I joined, and to be honest, I'm happy I did. No neoboards, I learnt much from the time I spent exploring the site.
Of course, you know when a certain number of people report you, you get instantly frozen? Otherwise, you really should have kept trying, because I've found that sometimes, mails do not get replied. They respond rather quickly I find, and they get more than 200 mails about frozen accounts and such per day, each.
Sorry if that comes across as rude, it's not mean to, I just guess that's how I write

*ahem*
*AHEEMMM*
Dang, these allergies are really tearing up my throat! Anyway, there are quite a few neoboarders that are underage that aren't like that. *AHEM* Like me, and a friend of mine.
It doesn't matter what age they are, most people on the neoboards talk that like.

I joined Neopets when I was 8, I've been on the Neoboards since then. If these peoploe have parental permission, and they don't break the rules, then there's no problem. If they do break the rules, they should be reported and treated equally.

Yep, from what I've seen especially in the more religious and conservative parts.

Therefore giving "annoying newer members/people" the power of monitors. Allowing them to freeze any account they want.
Edit: gosh darnit, I keep forgetting it's a banned word...

OK, first let me say that I do not judge anyone by their age, whether their actual physical age or their age on Neopets or here ... or anywhere!
I do, however, loathe chatspeak and some of the affectations - every word having "ish" on the end, mai for my (that's one more letter!), things like that. There have been times when someone needed help, but I had no idea what on earth they were trying to ask. And I really don't think anyone should have to sit and try to decipher that.
Now, underage posters on the boards. I have met some incredibly smart, savvy, polite and considerate people that I would never have known they were younger until they said so. I have also met some incredibly dumb, incoherent, rude and irresponsible adults. So no one can assume that because someone posts something wild or posts their picture or any other personal information that they're young. And yes, I am an adult, probably old enough to be a parent to most of you.
As to certain words on the boards, or anywhere else that a user can type them. Yes, there are 2 words in particular that ARE on the site, h and d. And they are there in more than one place. So, you would think that it would be ok for us to type them. I have seen people warned/immediately frozen for typing them, along with mate, crap, calling someone a n (you know the word). That one is considered harrassment if it is reported. So is dunging someone - don't ever do that.
Mass reporting. I know a staff member did post here awhile ago saying that all reports are looked into, that a reported board or topic cannot be falsified, but I have seen people get massed and frozen, never to get their account back. I've seen this done as revenge and I've seen it done for "fun". Either way, it is completely unfair. I really think that "Report This Message" button should be removed from the message boards. People got report happy real quick and there's too much of the "nana police" kind of thing going on.

I'm so proud of myself.
I did an "experiment". I made a new account a few hours ago. I reported it, and I got about 30 friends to report it.
Now it's frozen for scamming.

Ooo, be careful they don't look at your IP and ban all your accounts. I've heard from others who've had that happen to them

This is why I don't post on the neoboards ever. It's that silly :/ That was another reason I was so glad the trading post updated to how it is now, I didn't even have to post on the trades board anymore.
o_0 - that's just ridiculous and yet somehow not surprising. I guess you can't blame them for doing it with that number of complaints but at the same time you think they'd be a bit suspicious, and it's certainly not on when they won't give said accounts back. Just, grrr.
Wed Jun 08, 2005 9:46 pm
o_0, did you type anything "wrong" on the Neoboards or anything with it? Or did you just create, then report?
Because that's some solid evidence of freezing without looking...
I hope you did it on another IP address than your normal account would be played on, because they could freeze all the accounts on your IP address.
