I agree, I have a lot of complaints about the BC. I went browsing through the Draik entries (my favorite category because I want to enter mine some day, and it's a limited pet so there aren't 5000 entries to browse :D) a while ago and there was one that keeps winning, and the caption for it is like "I got permission from so and so to use this" You didn't draw it dude, you don't deserve to win! And then there's the 10-second effort ones, that're an official pic of the pet with a hat and mustache drawn on in MSPaint. Then there's that semi-new one of WOW I MAKE GIF PICTURE MOVE LOLOL that're just official art of different colors of the pet rotating around... gah. I don't really remember where I was going with this  Bottom line: something should be changed.

Btw I don't have a problem with asking friends to vote and stuff, but Neoboard begging and Neomailing random strangers is crossing the line a bit.

Edit: MAKE IT STOP!! (uploaded to my photobucket to conceal identity I guess) It's official art. Of a Wocky (or 3). IN THE AISHA CATEGORY. Whoever's in charge of weeding out crap (I'm assuming there's someone that makes sure nothing inappropriate gets in) needs to be fired. :/

I wouldn't win if they judged on quality, I hate to admit. :P But at least I do not copy and paste, and draw a hat on it, or something... or colorize it and make an animation in which it flashes between the original colour and the two other colorized images... 0:)

I wonder how well a sprite would do in the BC... Anyways, people aren't always going to judge on quality, so there probably should be a filter or something to prevent 5-minute drawings from making it in.

We will not be accepting images that are taken directly from the site and not changed. The purpose of the contest is for everyone to enjoy how you see your pets and give you a chance to dress and/or adorn them.

You can use any of the pictures from Neopets as a basis for your pet pictures, or you can create it all from scratch. If you want to use an image from the site just save it onto your computer and open it out in any paint program. Once it is open draw on the clothes, make up, hair, etc. that you want your pet to wear and then save it.

Those two questions kind of answer it right there.

They need to ban C&P entries NOW. I have an ANGRY FIERY BURNING HOT HATRED for C&Ps. It's so hard trying not to yell at someone when they say they "worked hard" on their entry and it's a freakin' picture of a happy Lupe with what appears to be a dress on it... *twitch* I work hours, days, sometimes weeks on my entries, and they get outdone by a 5-minute scribble... *twitch* And others with amazing entries, who get like 12th place just because they aren't as popular... *twitch*

TNT, if you are reading this, please redo the BC system... before I explode in a fiery bomb of RAAAAAGE!!!

One problem I see about the BC is that apart from those who participate in it, no one else on Neo actually CARE who wins or vote :/ Most people actually HATE getting BC advertising n/ms (me for eg.) That's why famous site reference entries always win....

IMO TNT should review the top 3 placings in every species every week and take out entries that doesn't deserve the votes for it.... But then the person who got their entry deleted would probly complain that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and TNT's judging on whether a picture deserves its votes isn't fair :/ You see, too many problems to make BC actually work, so if I were Adam I'd just call off the whole thing, delete the whole BEauty contest thing XD No one benefits then....They need to think of a better idea for a pet trophy than BC :x

I agree with almost everything that's been said so far concerning the 'popularity' vote. I entered my usul in last week's contest, as many of you know, and got a healthy third place. Now I'm not complaining about that at all... I'm so glad I placed! My point though, is that the usul that DID win first...er...well... go take a look for yourself. I love the second place one, though. :)

I was just thinking about something like this last week or so! :o
I don't even bother looking at the BC because of so many dung-quality cut-and-pastes and vote traders/beggars infesting it. They should quality control these entries. And holy kau, those answers sure are contradictory!!! o____O

I believe that user identity should be hidden for each entry. Code should be added to prevent the right mouse button and print screen from being used to steal art (which is unfortunate, because you can't stop Print Screen.)

You even know what a sprite IS? Look at my thread in the gallery. THOSE are sprites! Official neopets pictures are NOT sprites! My question is NOT answered there!

And Laelya, could you provide a link, please? I'm very interested in seeing this horrible winner...

To be honest I never go to the beauty contest unless someone from ppt has a pet in it and I happen to see their link, then I will only vote for it if I think its good.

But, I agree that the current system doesnt seem fair to people who worked hard on their pictures. I dont think that the staff should do all of the judging on the beauty contest because then it would be exactly the same as the Art gallery (someone already said this!) I think that the staff could maybe pick a handfull of entries for each catagory and then we get to vote on the winners, at least that way only decent entries will be in with a chance of winning.

I agree with most of what was said...
Although as much as we hate it, C&P entrys aren't against rules, in fact, notice how its called a Beauty contest, and not an art contest.
Also, in the FAQ
Where do I get the pictures from?
You can use any of the pictures from Neopets as a basis for your pet pictures, or you can create it all from scratch. So I guess were stuck with that, but people who advertise unfairly is all wrong in my opinion.
Plus I think they should get rid of the BC board.

Anyone who participates in the AG knows that making the BC into a second AG isn't going to fix the problem of watching crappy art beat out the project you labored over. True, the overall standard is higher for the AG but, for whatever reason, the best art often doesn't get in.

I really don't know how to fix the BC, if at all. Changing the rules to disallow C&P images is probably a good way to go. I think that perhaps the ban on a winning pet re-entering should be extended to spread the wealth around, as well: maybe make it apply to everyone who won a trophy, or to all pets on the account. Of course, that does take the fun away from people who enjoy participating in the BC.

Mon Jan 17, 2005 9:01 pm

Banning accounts who have won the BC from ever entering again will b TOTALLY unfair, as 1. what if they want to enter another pet? And 2. what if they want to enter a picture that is better then the one before of their pet and see if it can win? I can see how tricky this topic is...
