I found this funny

http://info.neopets.com/presskit/pressarticles.html

Most of the articles there are written by newspapers and TV stations and such. Note that many hint about the sponsering stuff all over the site.

A few of them even say complement the fact that Neo doesn't have ad banners everywhere. Although those were from 2003, but it's still kind of amusing, no? >,^

EDIT: A quote from the Press Kit FAQ:

In 2003, Hasbro released Pocket NeoPetsĀ®, Thinkway Toys released a series of voice-activated Neopets interactive toys, and Wizards of the Coast introduced the first Neopets Trading Card Game. 2004 introductions include Neopets Action Figures in Wal*Mart, and an electronic hand-held TV Game, from Thinkway Toys.

Fwee.

I hate the fact that they now have non-child related advertising banners around, I know the site is meant for adults aswell but the whole meaning to the site is kids related, you think of Neopets and you automatically think of the ages of 8 - 16 or so, as stereotypical as that is, I still think the banners like "Get a Green Card" and "Buy on Ebay" are a bit wrong

Hmm.. Something very wrong with that.

Do we know if Mr. Kinney is still with the company?

I've read a few things where it was said that there would never be banner ads, pop-ups, etc. on the site. Guess business is like politics. When someone's running for office they'll say one thing, get into office and do another. Neo gets great press from different sources praising them for not going down the road of the banner ad/pop-up/tracker, adware, spyware; gets more members/pageviews and decides to do the very thing they said they wouldn't. Guess just sponsors on the sidebar/game tie-ins/merchandise/fastfood promos aren't cutting it financially?

I wish they'd finish and release the darned Premium to the general public - and make it more affordable. I'm considering it, but it is a bit pricey. Maybe if enough people sign up for it the banner could go away, or at least I wouldn't be seeing "free iPod", NYTimes, Credit Card, that awful CursorZone that makes your mouse go nuts and the AOL Call Alert that freezes the entire page for almost a minute.
