That, or I think the artist is indicating where the shadow would fall.

I really think the site should be placing more emphasis on already irrealistic and unhealthy body impressions for pre-teens. Nothing says 'I am a better person" quite like settling competitions through a competition based purely on physical ideals. Now that the fire faerie is slightly less anorexic and already being referred to as "the Kirstie Allie Faerie" because she is currently the only mildly respectable (and I do put a heavy emphasis on the mildly) actress who is unable to use a piece of licorice as a belt, we propably don't want to start heading back in that direction. In fact, I have no problem with them being skinny and waiflike. That's fairies. That's what they are. My problem is when they start getting skanked up. Its not a direction we should be pushing kids into. They're finding their way there just fine on their own, thank you very much. Its like those crappy little Bratz. Those things aren't cool. Its like," hey, I think we have enough positive role models in the girls toy aisle. Let's see, we have Lawyer Barbie, Doctor Barbie, First Black Femal President Barbie, Findinag a Cure For Cancer Barbie, and, what's this? Street Corner Barbie (Pimp Daddy Ken sold seperately)." Its like mini skank trainers. What happened to the good old days! I got my run of the mill Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (back when they still liked pizza, saiid cowabunga and had pupils) and I was good. And they were worried about THAT being a bad influence!!!! Even the clothing! Back in my day in kindergarten the most controvertial thing a girl would be wearing was leg warmers over her tights with an unhealthy amount of fluorescent colours with her 8 year old sister's New Kids on the Block t-shirt and a side pony tail. Now, its leg warmers... and that's it. Its like these little 5 year old Britney's and X-Tina's running around on the playground catching thier death of cold while MTV as rotted out any sense of percception and they're just waiting for hormones to kick in so they can firmly lose any sense of self worth and promptly be taken advantage of by the first pimply faced, immoral, manipulative jerk to tell her she's got a nice tail and that her shirt looks nice but would look even nicer on his bedroom floor. Meanwhile the parents are standing by, either oblivious, apathetic or helpless while the teachers and the occasional good kid stands back and shakes their head because they know that there's nothing they can do and that they are in the minority of human beings in our society that actually have the presence of mind to form their own opinion and there is absolutely buttkiss they can do about it!

That being said, I think the Water Faerie would win. She's totally hot.

:o Wow. I am impressed. I just saved that on my computer.

The Space Faerie is probably my favorite as well, I like space in general so of course I like that particular faerie.

Ever since I started neopets more than three years ago, I've always had a thing for the fire faeries. Unfortunately due to that incident with the starring and the grocery shipment and the restraining order I can't get close anymore

I knew there was a reason I married you, Ishmael! *Steals quote to put in sig*

I always assumed you just loved me for my rugged good looks. ;)

I'd just like to say I agree with those who posted against the look of some of the faeries.. I do understand that you shouldn't base all your life lessions on a website, but I still don't think thats an excuse for some of the things they promote.

Back on to subject, I think the most beautiful faerie would be the Soup Faerie. I mean, she dresses modestly, she's kind, and she gives, not receives. I think she is a good rolemodel. :D

Well, there's really a difference between promoting something, and having someone perceive it as a promotion. I don't really think TNT sat down and said: You know... let's assert our influence on society by adding into the mass-media-body-type-agenda.

I realize my view has made me seem somewhat of a bad-guy... and believe me, no one is more surprised than I that I'm actually arguing this point (I'm not exactly Fabio myself)... but I feel that there's been almost a backlash of sensitivity in light of the whole Kate-Moss-waif-thin-is-in controversies.

We went from not seeing it was there, to seeing it was there, to seeing it everywhere we look.

Perhaps part of this is spawned by the fact that I don't want anyone to think I'm promoting a culture of shallowness. After my initial start of the thread, another post was made that criticized it in a rather cruel and sarcastic (if not sardonic) fashion. All I was doing was suggesting something. And it got into this whole big thing. See how over-sensitized we've all become?

If we jump at shadows, we only jump at reflections of ourselves.

Oh, and as for the Faerie contest... I'd probably mention Soup Faerie as a second. She's got a homely kindness about her (I'm thinking it's the apron). <3

Dude. Just for the record, your not wanting to promote a culture of shallowness but, coincidentally, you enjoy your top two faeries because they're hot, they show a lot of skin, and one of them is good in the kitchen

lol

Wow... and I was always under the impression that I liked Illusen because of the artwork and a cuteness abouit her... and the Soup Faerie because of her facial features and the homeliness she had...

...I'm sure that's what my previous posts said.

(checks)

Yep, that's what I said.

...but your faulty and hasty assumptions at my true inner motives, though knowing nothing about me and obviously not reading my stand on all this, has brought the light to my eyes. Clearly the Y chromosome in my body has taken over, satisfying its full potential and turning me into the male chauvenist pig that I was destined to become.

Mia culpa

And on that rather sarcastic note, let's ask the Mod to lock this topic before things get out of hand lol ^_^()

Or at least move it to a different board.

Somehow, I'm doubting PPT is the place to be discussing morality issues like this.

EDIT: Btw, I would apologize to everyone for that kitchen comment. I found that very offensive, and I'm sure a lot of other people did also. Chill.

Fri Apr 15, 2005 9:06 am

Chill, daddy-o. I call your attention to Exhibit A: The tongue in my cheek. Undeniable evidence that it was, in fact, a tongue in cheek comment.

The defense rests. 8)

However, its your topic to condemn to lock-itude if you wish.

You're right. I used the wrong word. Correction taken, thank you. :)

Okay, okay.

Maybe that's one thing we can all agree on.

Bratz give me nightmares (shudder)
