The Krawk is actually based off a mythological water creature. The name slips my mind currently but I know it's not just a krawk with fins

i dont know.... the krawk at least still has the basic same body figure.... they just gave him the details of that creature so it was something recognizeable as an underwater creature.... but i do know what creature your talking about... i cant think of the name either.

Still, it has its rear end in the air, and if the artists were trying to suggest a depth look to it, they didn't do a very good job...
I.E. The maraquan elephante's tail is in the air too, but it looks more like it's behind the body. (see my siggy)
