TNT needs to shut the site down. It is the only way they can get these people to stop doing this. I don't mind a few days down if it means that it gets put back to something resembling normalcy.

Once down, they need to go through all data and see how it started, who started it, get IP addresses, get real addresses from the IP addresses, and press charges.

Time to stop pretending it is a game. And take some action. Enough action to scare anyone who might think of doing it in the future.

Because it isn't just a game. It is big business--in game format. No other business would put up with hackers attempting to bring their business down. Which is pretty much what these people tonight attempted to do.

I couldn't agree more, TNT has to stop and be serious now or else their game will slide further into ruin.

i was planning on spending all my money on an h4k helmet too :(

The question is how much further into ruin can it go?

I mean, really, TNT is freezing accounts that do NOTHING. And they aren't even helping those with real problems (i.e. HP, H4K, SoS glitched ;x).

TNT just needs to shut the site down for a bit. Perhaps do a rollback. And if they don't do that, the people who bought the items (only people who have them in trades with a message that says something like, "These were duped, TNT discard them please" or something, or someone who writes to TNT and does not use the duped items, not the people who bought them because they wanted to make easy money) should get unfrozen. ._.

There's rumors of rollbacks, rumors of shutting the site down until this mess is cleaned up ... but no one knows but TNT, and they're not talking much. I do note that snarkie posted on the BD chat and it's a little past midnight where they are. Wild guess that alot of people got phone calls waking them up telling them to get to the office.

Concerns - catching and doing something to the people responsible for this. I don't just mean freezing them. What they've done in some places at least is actually against the law, then there is the T&C and the miscellaneous 50,000 dollar fine for making a program, $500 for each use of the program. The hard part? Finding whoever did this. But I hope they do find them and nail them to the wall. It is more than "just" a game, I agree completely with Morningstar. This is a corporation with registered, trademarked images, names, etc.

Other concerns - innocent people who were sent items or bought something they thought was a good deal and later find out that these were duped items; also people who aren't in guilds spreading the word, who don't go to the boards -- just don't know about this. People who've received items have already been frozen, and I hope they get their accounts back. The people who DO know and are asking to be sent duped items (yes, they are!) or experienced players buying a t-tear for 75k? They deserve to be punished in some way.

The items themselves. Unless there is some kind of rollback, how on earth will all the duped items be taken out of circulation? People could end up frozen for getting something weeks from now, there's that much stuff being duped. This is now and I think will continue to severely impact the entire Neopian "economy".

Let's say you're a restocker (an honest one) - you go and buy from the main shops, then put things in your own shop, trades, auctions. People are saying they're not going to buy anything from anyone. Even RE-type things like map pieces -- those have been duped. So you can't trust just about any item right now unless you buy directly from the main shops. Where does that leave the restockers/resellers? In the cold with not much np coming in.

Tonight was a very sad night for Neopets. For the players and for the staff. I wish everyone the best. And I thank the staff for working so hard to try to get things back to "normal".

what's a rollback?

Tue Jul 26, 2005 7:41 am

Instead of donating your duped items to the money tree, why not just discard them?
That way you can guarentee that a newbie won't pick it up, and get frozen

Tue Jul 26, 2005 7:43 am

I really wish they could sue them for 50k. I really wish they could. I would be so happy! Just one example could scare a lot of people into stopping the scams/abing.

and give TNT bad publicity

From what I saw and read tonight (just finally logged out), it is the people doing the duping that are donating to the money tree, sending things to people (probably in hopes of that person getting iced), running uber cheap auctions, selling t-tears for 75k, etc.

Someone tried to discard a faerie slingshot (FSS) - it can't be done, the person got a message saying that item was too expensive to discard. That's why there's so many trades up with notes to TNT to delete the expensive things, and even the not so expensive things.

o_0 I'm with you, I'd LOVE to see even just one person caught and fined that 50k in real-life dollars. And have it make the news (real life) all over the internet. I don't know how many cheaters it would discourage, but it would have to stop some of them.

How would that give TNT bad publicity? People who get caught trying to rob/scam other virtual sites don't give that site bad publicity. Rather the opposite - the site/business is looked at by most in a more positive light. Someone tried to pull something, broke the Terms of that site, probably broke the law, got caught, had to pay. I say Bravo if Neo could do it!

I seriously doubt that many of the accounts frozen will stay frozen. TNT should freeze accounts to protect them while sortingout the problem. Hopefully the remember to unfreeze the accounts after the source of the problem is dealt with.

A shop has currently stocked 50 g-bombs and 35 Cool Neggs so far that I've seen.

AND PEOPLE KEEP BUYING THEM.

:@

Tue Jul 26, 2005 8:17 am

Now is a really difficult time to do shop wiz sniping since we won't know whether the items priced at 99k is the wish of the seller or that they are duplicated items. Sighs

You may think that experienced buyer will know better than to buy these things for 99k, but it is really hard to know isn't it? Whether it's a good deal, glitch or mispriced, especially if the buyer/player never goes to boards or any forums, there's no way of getting any informations or have any doubts. Besides, i know there are some people when they quit, either donate or priced their items really cheaply. This is just a really sticky situation.

I hope Tnt does something and really fast. Panic is everywhere. Maybe they should really try to get 50k real money from those cheat programmers. I know this is one law suit that i will not complain. :P

I think that would be very difficult, if not impossible. People can hide beihnd proxies, use library computers, etc. Even in a household there are many members who could have done it. You will never be able to pinpoint the culprit with confidence.

I think the best Neo can do is a rollback. Some of these items like neggs and pbs have been used, and the damage cannot be reversed through merely getting rid of the duplicated items.

Furthermore, is there a way to differentiate between an item which has been duplicated and one which was original?

Tue Jul 26, 2005 8:24 am

This is really, REALLY worrying me...
I'm afraid to buy any items ATM :S
Although....makes me wonder if anyone's trying to get all those items because they're about to quit and want to go out with a bang :o
