*snarl* Banning the discussion or religion and politics is the BEST idea the Team has ever had! It brings up heated arguements and makes everyone on each side VERY mad. Which is the understatement of the century. If you have a problem with it, than go and talk to the people at your church or whatever and talk about your beliefs there. Neopia is NOT the place for it!

First, I was merely asking someone a polite question. Does that warrant the possibility of freezing? I think not. If people are immature enough to start uncivilized arguments or fights over the issues being discussed, they should be the ones being frozen, not those who can handle and discuss said issues in a constructive fashion.

If you have a problem with it, than go and talk to the people at your church or whatever and talk about your beliefs there.

What, the idea of blocking religious and political discussions (make that "expression")? The ones usually associated with a belief can talk amongst themselves about it, peacefully at that, until a report-happy fool or an ignorant bigot come in and tear everything up.

Neopia is NOT the place for it!

Neither was the U.S.S.R. Your point?

The problem with the neoboards is that they're policed by reporting others. Nuff said

Actually, I feel that you were in the wrong.

You were expressing your religeous views in a forum (that explicitly says that discussing religeon is forbidden) by telling that person to capitalise the word "god." By stressing that capitalisation, you were pushing religeous views.

If I'd said the word god (not that I would, especially on NP), and you'd told me to do that, I would feel that you were pushing your religeous views on me.

I feel that it was right for the mod to send you that warning. Not everyone is a Xian. I'm certainly not. Keep "god" out of the Pledge of Allegiance and all that. And definately keep it out of Neopets.

The only board I usually ever visit is the Neopian Writers Board. The other boards are pretty much the same; all much like waht General Chat once was. I really don't see anything wrong with asking someone to captialize God. But then again, it's like a patrol man on a highway: The six cars in front of you could be going 10 miles over the speed limit, and you could be going 5, and you would get caught. It's that simple you can't catch them all. Sometimes people comitting smaller offenses get busted.

On one hand I see no problem with what you said, and don't think you should have been warned.

On the other hand I think you should have completely left it alone. If you said it to someone such as LupetyLupe who would get completely offended of course you're going to get warned because you're going to get reported. You should never discuss Religions on Neopets whether it be a single post or a bunch of them. Yes, the person who created it should of been warned too, but, sometimes you can't control that. They have really weird desisions when it comes to who's being warned.

I realize you were a bit offended by someone not capitalizing God, but, just click off of it. Seriously. IT causes less trouble to ignore it than correct it.

And what to do between restocks? Play a game.

Well, politics are evil. They cause Florida to have hurricanes.

I guess the only politics legal in neopets is now the politics in the neopets staffroom.

Adam: VOTE FOR ME AND I WILL GIVE YOU ALL RADIOACTIVE AND HORMONE ENHANCED ASPARAGUS!
All Staff: Yay!

Exactly--in fact, I got pretty much that very statement in writing from a staff member when I wrote about my daughter's frozen account (frozen while on the chats by the way). I suggested in my email that perhaps the monitor who froze my daughter's account didn't actually read her board or posts, but instead relied on the user who had reported her as being a scammer.

In his reply, the staff member admitted that because of the sheer volume of posts on the chat boards, the monitors could not possibly read every post and, therefore, had to rely on the users' reports to enforce the rules. In other words, that means there isn't enough staff to monitor the boards!

In the end my daughter got her account back and the person who reported her got frozen for false reporting one too many times.

And, I didn't allow her on the boards for a long, long time after that. However, she has now created a throwaway account--it is the only account she uses when visiting the chats and has nothing on it. That way if she is frozen, it is no real huge loss. But, she is still extremely cautious in making any posts.

And, as for me, I don't go on the chats--except when shops/SDBs/petpets disappear. And I post only to calm the hysterical masses down and reassure them that what happened was indeed a glitch.

It's just not worth venturing into otherwise--like going down a dark alley with a bunch of big, scary-looking thugs following right behind you. Too risky.

I don't understand why you should be surprised that you received a warning from TNT. Rule 12 of the Chat Rules clearly states:
Do not discuss religious or political views anywhere on Neopets.
This means the Message Boards, the Guild Boards and Neomail. You may not like it, but it is TNT's perogative to enforce the rules and regulations of its own website.

Seriously, I believe there are more important things to worry about than if someone capitalizes the word God or not. Actually I don't think it's mandated in the Bible. After all, the Bible was not written in English. Most of the global population was not even literate until the past 300 years. Before that time, it was only aristrocracy, royalty, the clergy, and the upper merchant class that had access to books or scrolls.

No irony intended (alright, maybe a little) but amen. :P

Omni, although I do agree that whoever reported you was out of hand, and personally I wouldn't have reported you for it, it does cross the line into religious discussion because only certain religions consider God as needing to be capitalized. By asking someone else to do it, you were espousing your religion over the other religions (and lack thereof) that didn't require it.
Personally, in my religion, it's customary to write the word as G-d. But I'd never ask that anyone else did it.

But anyhow, yeah. Posting anything even remotely controversial in the NeoBoards is asking for trouble - I got my last account frozen for discussing whether politics should be discussed or not.

In my opinion, there are not nearly enough mods and although they are advertising for more, they are only hiring from the local area. So even if they do get enough mods for the size of the site, they will all be on at the same time as each other. When I come on neopets (from UK) its about 3am NST and you see awful messages on the boards and on the trades and there are no mods around until later. I think they need to hire mods from other countries and timezones, then there will be 24 hour moderating.

Tue Oct 19, 2004 11:40 am

Well, perhaps I need to be more specific. The person in question was referring to someone to someone who is known to express Christian beliefs, and the case he was making was not helped by using a less specific term for the Christian God (in this case, the name was uncapitalized.). In addition, I was asking, not demanding that he do so.

It's my understanding that they do have mods on 24 hours a day. I've seen message boards deleted in the middle of the night, so I know 'someone' is watching. It's too bad that they won't hire off-site monitors. Have they never heard of "telecommuting"?? At least they'd save on their utility bills, lol! ;)

That's sad though. Reporting a users just because they didn't spell a word/name with a capital.

So that makes what you said right? Maybe you didn't offend that person, but perhaps a bystander was. I know there's a lot of people on the Neoboards that will sit and watch Religious boards and warn anyone ANYONE who participates. Unfortunately, you broke a rule. Yeah, it seems ridculous, but you did. It was just a warning, you weren't frozen, smooth down the hairs on the back of your neck and move on.
