Yeah, and that "a while" is probably 15 minutes at most on a fast connection. Buying it off the shop wiz is the best option. :)

Personally, it just keeps the game interesting for me! Just this week I got an Island Elephant from the lab. I've had, so many good looking pets come from the lab in the year since I've had it. I ususally go to the lab first each day just to see what I get from it. I'd say get the lab!

Another person who, though I can get frustrated with it at times, agrees - get the lab map! If you buy the pieces you can afford right now, then play games and save up for the additional pieces you'll have it before you know it!

I'm a "rescuer" too. I adopt, heal, feed, and zap until a pet gets to be a good color. Then I put in the pound and adopt another pet. I really have fun doing it. And this way pets get a second chance and people who want a particular painted pet and couldn't afford a pb get a great pet.

If I never took over my guilds adoption agency, I would never have gotten to play with the lab ray. I love it, I have had a grey, purple, and jelly pets in the last month.
All have been adopted. It is a game seeing how long it will take me to zap them in to a cool colour.
So yes I think it is worth it.

I have the lab on all 5 of my accounts :) I use the gallery accounts for adoption - most of the time ;) Sometimes I get so attached to a ept I was *supposedly* doing for adoption, that i end up keeping ti for a long time :P

And I agree with ermm, what someone (sorry, cant remember who! :P) said before, buy what you can afford now, then each other peice as you can - mostly because if you buy what you can afford now - you can't spend that np on other things ;)

I tried saving all at once for the lab when i started my newest account, but I kept findig other things I *had* to have, so never got anywhere. Once I actually sat down and bought what I could afford, then earnt the other pieces day by day, I had it in no time! :D

I'd say its worth it. I got a Maraquan scorchio from the lab. Saved loads of nps from not having to buy a paintbrush. I also have gotten decent stats from the lab too. When I'm done labbing my friends pet, I'm going to start adopting pets to lab into better colours and put them back for adoption for better homes.

I'm not sure it that's a yes-or-no question... it depends on what you're after with the lab.

If you battle, I'm told it's worth it, NP-wise. I've been zapping my battle pet for a few months now and while I'm not sure I've covered the cost of the lab, I'll certianly save quite a few NP over the cost of the lost levels and the morphing potion to change her back. However, I'm planning to stop zapping before her hp would force me to cross over from the three codestone range to the four codestone range. If I were a serious battler training continuously, I'd doubtless save big-time NP via the lab.

If you just want your current pets to be unspecified cool color, it's worth it.

If you want a specific labbable color/species combo in mind, that can work, too... as long as you don't already have a pet in mind for it. That is, you can zap pets for a Darigan Peophin, for example -- that's how I got my Darigan Peophin -- but it's usually only cost-effective if you abandon the pets once they change species. Then you adopt or create a new pet of the target species -- in this case, a Peophin -- to zap.

In other words, you can get a specific pet to be some interesting color with the lab, and more likely than not you can get some pet to be a specific color/species combo with the lab. (Unless it's a limited pet or a non-labbable color like Royal, Pirate, or Baby, of course.) But getting a specific pet a specific color/species combo via the lab is highly unlikely.

I have two labs, one on a side account and one on my main account. The one on my main account paid for itself a long time ago -- it gave me both my Darigan pets, although I may paint (or lab) the Darigan Zafara something else eventually. The one on my side account I got for fostering pets from the Pound, so it won't ever pay for itself in terms of expensive pet colors... it will pay for itself in entertainment value, though.

I may just be strange, but one thing I've found is that I don't really like having my 4 permanent pets in a state of flux. I think once I've gotten around 155 HP on my battle pet I'm going to give up labbing on my main for a while and enjoy my pets as the color and species I've chosen for them.

while we're talking about labbing, i'm going to tack on a question:

i heard that the lab won't lower the level of a pet if the level is over 50. would it be worth it to train a lab pet's level using codestones or dubloons up to 51, and then start using the lab?

It's definitely worth it.
You can save a lot of NP on Codestones, Morphing/Transmogrification potions and Paint brushes.
I got it back when it was worth 180k or so, and my pet's now heaps stronger and changed into some rather interesting/expensive things. :)

That might be a good idea.
But I never did that because it doesn't really matter that much to me.
=/

initially it might seem like a rip off but over time, it's absolutely worth it. It's given me countless painted pets, more than I can even remember, and a whole lot of stat increases, which has saved a fortune on training. And as someone else pointed out, it's like an additional freebie everyday, just for the fun of it I'd say its worth it ;) But if that's not enough for you, there's even avs you can get through the lab like island quiggle etc. which unless you're uber rich would be impossible to get. It's totally absolutentely undeniably worth it :D In fact, I'd say its a bargain for all it does.

Pretty sure that isn't true - been a while since I labbed my biggest pet, but pretty sure it isnt :)

While we're on rumours though, I *did* hear, (and so far have found it to be true) that if your pet is over level 20 it wont get zapped down to level 1 though

Definatly.

I've had the ray for about 5 months now.

Colour-wise, I have had:

Starry, Pink, Halloween, Island, Sponge, Sketch, Ghost, Christmas and more!

It's toally worth it! I got it way back when you could for like 100ishK and my stats have mostly gone up 7x. I got a ton of great colours like my famous ghost lupe. It will take a bit longer now but it still will pay for itself

Right now the price of a full map is about 580K. So, I guess it depends on whether you battle or not, how long you are willing to wait to get the right color for your pet, whether or not you are absolutely set on having a certain species, and whether or not there is more than one color you would be willing to have for your pet (in other words, if you only want a baby acara and nothing else, it probably isn't a good idea--but if you just want a super cool painted pet, then it might be). Plus, the lab can give you colors you can't get from a PB--like robot and jelly.

I don't have a map because I am too impatient to wait forever to get my pet to the color I want--plus I didn't want to change my pet's species and I don't battle. But my daughter and husband loved the map--back when they used to play. And, I benefitted--I got the painted pets they didn't want--pretty much for free--even a plushie elephante--yay, me!

580k? All I have is 300k :(

And yes, it's definately worth it! I had it on my old acount which is now frozen. It is awesome, I'm saving up again to get one!
