Mario, I agree, I think it is way too late for that. And can I say I'm disappointed that a rollback wasn't done? I think it could have saved some people, along with helping to get the duped garbage out of the system (helping staff). Someone on the BD Chat was frozen earlier for

This account has been FROZEN for the following reason:

This account was found to have knowingly abused a glitch which provided an unfair advantage over other players.

What did they do? They borrowed some weapons from someone they KNEW and apparently at least one of the them was duped.

And the person who was sent some grey pbs? Got an answer saying they won't get their (5 year) account back :( They were a very early victim of this thing.

So the innocent/unknowing (people who for whatever reason haven't been on the site for a couple days) aregoing to continue to pay for this mess.

Wed Jul 27, 2005 6:20 pm

Erm, i think the email they got saying they won't get their account back is an auto-form. That person should just reply and try explain again...Good luck to that person aswell.

I think the worst is over now. I've returned back to sniping and everythings all good.

I'm not saying it's right to be stashing duped items, but look at the current economy. Everything is inflated, costs high prices, and not many people have, or can earn in a feasible amount of time, the amount of NP it takes to buy what they want. If TNT just tried to relieve this in some way, to make things more affordable than they are, wouldn't you think that less and less people would be greedy and attempt to make a gain on a situation like this?

That's not very good logic to me. People are just greedy- I bet you most of the people that willingly took advantage of this glitch already had a lot of NP in the first place.

It's the classic line, "The rich only get richer."

Seems Neo is able to identify the dupes from the non-dupes. A friend of mine tried to buy something in someone's shop last night and got a message saying that the points could not be withdrawn because the item was a duplicate.

Clearly, this was done to wreak havoc on the site, not for purposes of greed. My guess is that these jerks wanted power--to see if they could actually do something like this--or revenge. Perhaps in return for having an account frozen in the past?

If they had been out to get wealthy, they would have duped one of the expensive BD items and sold it discreetly on the TP for 40 million. And, done this on an occasional basis, so as not to cause too much suspicion. It cannot even be considered to be greed because a person cannot make any nps whatsoever if he is giving the stuff away on the money tree.

I got a message like that before, when I was trying to buy a really cheap codestone. It says something like "the number of this item could not be reduced, so we've stopped your transaction -- this is a good thing, as it may have been duplicated!" That's not word-for-word, but that was the general idea. So I'm not too worried about buying things from shops, as it'll warn you if they're dupes. I'm avoiding the TP and auctions for now, though, and I never try to get stuff off the money tree.

Wed Jul 27, 2005 8:22 pm

Oh Kudos again to Staff! I didn't know about that message in shops, that's great. At least there's one area where we can buy and sell. :)

Trades and auctions? I think I'd still stay away from, at least for the time being. TNT I think probably has enough on their hands, they don't need any more people than possible adding to the mix by bidding on things that may be duped.

Winter, I have to agree with Morningstar and anyone else who has the opinion that this was done solely to cause chaos on the site. I think someone had a grudge against Neo, got some other people involved (saw some old accounts in this - and actually saw one of the post on the BD chat today! I have a screenie of them donating 17 FQD last night!).

Yes, they caused huge problems for the staff, they also caused and are still causing huge problems for everyone who plays on the site. People are still being frozen left and right. Their crime? Either being given or buying without knowing a duped item. Not everything duped is FSS/GShield/FQD/T-Tear ... normal things (codestones/dubloons/even omelettes!) are being duped. This has nothing to do with the neo-economy per se. As in this wasn't a misguided "Robin Hood" trying to help the middle class/poor neopians get items they'd never see otherwise. This was malicious.

Sends the entire TNT staff huge  for all the work they're doing. Hopefully they'll be able to get all this out of circulation. And sends good wishes and vibes to all the innocent people frozen during this, that they get their accounts back. To anyone trying to "sit" on duped items, use them, sell them, well I have to say I hope you get caught.

jxpop, the only thing I can suggest for your g/f is to only use items from dailies (tombola, omelette, jelly, fishing, etc.) and to buy from the main Neopian shops if she wants anything else. I wouldn't go to the tp or auctions looking for, say, a pb right now. Basically, I wouldn't buy anything from anyone other than Neo. As far as feeding her pets? The Lodge, if she doesn't have omelettes or other cheap (like from the fishing game, etc.) food sitting in her sdb.

Even the seasoned vets are being affected by this, no one is exempt. Can't even trust codestones and dubloons, so alot of us aren't training (unless they have a nice stash already - which I don't).

Thanks for the advice :)

OK, I don't want to scare anyone but there is a general rumbling about the BD chat that more duping is going to take place tonight. At 9:11 pm.

Normally, I would laugh this off, but I even saw a big name player create a board telling people to take precautions.

Perhaps they are going to test Neopets new patch? I do hope that TNT is reading these topics and has set a trap.

Like we don't have enough in this world to worry about.

That is awful. To do it at 9:11- how disrespectful can these people get.

Wow...

I totally agree with you on that the jerks just wanted to wreak havoc. I was referring to the people who were taking advantage of all the cool neggs and slingshots going through the money tree. Not the people actually duping.

Thanks for the warning... hopefully nothing will come of it but I think I'll log out and avoid the site for that time just in case. I'll check here though to see if anything does happen, and I hope it doens't.

I'm just appalled that people would do something like this in the first place. Why don't they find something productive to do with their time, or at least something that doesn't hurt others! I hope that everyone who duped items gets what they... deserve. :x I don't think that any $50K lawsuits will be likely, but I would certainly laugh if a few were delivered...

i totally agree with yuor statement. everything on neopets is so hard to do now. the games are hard, the prices are high, the restocks are low, and on top of all that, there are so many report happy people out there. making most people with good accounts scared to post on message boards.

Thu Jul 28, 2005 12:34 am

Prices are high because demand is high for items. It's easier than ever to earn np, so prices aren't really overly "inflated". If np was as hard to get as it used to be, and prices are at the level they are now, then you could fairly say they were unfair. I bet if you analyzed the ancient prices of pbs/items and factored in the relative difficulty of getting np back in the day, real prices wouldn't be awfully far off. Prices in the game are fair and set by supply and demand with the exception of the HT. The hidden tower actually helps cap prices on things too. I think that realistically, prices on the site aren't that bad. Naturally, people that have a ton of time to spend on the site making np have more things. It's only fair.

The only "fix" I'd suggest is to redouble the rate that lower rarity items stock at. This would make quests more affordable, and give a little bit of a boost for the casual player that doesn't havemuch time to spend on the site as well as the more frequent players.

Thu Jul 28, 2005 12:38 am

prices are inflated. incase you haven't noticed, but the games are getting harder and harder, and you have to spend more time on them. plus, how is earning nps easier? there are more people on neopets now than back then.
