Its just appeared in my hand.
Its not from an auction, or from the shop till.
Its not from a RE cos I didn't have it when I did my freebies this morning, but when I went to look at the news, there it was.
I know no-one is in my account, even I have problems with my pwd

or maybe you loaded a page without noticing the RE. Like maybe you were on your way somewhere and are so used to doing it you didn't even wait for the page to fully load? That's happened to me with quests. I didn't even know I was on one until I tried to use the wiz.

in the past, people have also had myserious nps appear, only to find its for an unreleased ppl

The exact same thing happened to me not so long ago except it was for 28k, I never did find out what it was for! Dont worry about it too much!:)
I sent a bug report to neo just to be on the safe side, but they still havent taken the np back...

I once gained 12,000NP once when i was looking at the old meridell war scores...dunno how it happened though

I would also check my petpets and see if their age fits the amount of Neopoints. Maybe you won a PPL.

Only thing I've ever won was my Whack A Kass avie. I'm in 10th place I think now, and I'm still getting neomails asking how I got my score.

Petpet Protection league is nothing you can enter, it's automatically chosen. And 100 NP for each day, 75 days = 7500 NP. But it was only a guess, so never mind
