Need Clarification...(Multiple Accounts)

Tue Jul 27, 2004 4:34 pm

My brother and I both have accounts on Neopets. We both do the dailys, we both play the games, neither of us restock, and it's all on the same IP. Since it's our home IP, it probably shows up as a non-public location, meaning the chances of multiple players here aren't very high. For other reference, we use the same computers as well (we don't have our own).

I'm asking that since the ToS state you can't do anything like that on multiple accounts, then why aren't we frozen yet? We've been playing for nearly three years (on and off) now, and you'd think we would've been iced by now. Or, is there another way they use to determine whether or not the accounts are the same person?

Tue Jul 27, 2004 4:36 pm

Maybe they see if the pets on both accounts are taken care of and if the items are transferred over to the other account.

Tue Jul 27, 2004 4:51 pm

I think in some ways because if someone looks, it is apparent it is two accounts. I worry about the same thing when I go on my boyfriend's account (with his permission) to do dailies for him while he is working at camp this summer. I think that sometimes it is apparent it is two people, ie two different email addresses, two different names that the account is in, in our case our accounts were created nearly a year apart, and even just different tastes in pets and choice of pet color.

Tue Jul 27, 2004 4:52 pm

Probably because you're registered under different names, with different email addresses.

Also, if you don't trade between accounts, that helps avoid notice.

Tue Jul 27, 2004 5:02 pm

Yeah, we have traded a little between accounts, but not significantly. And when we trade, it is through the trading post. Giving gifts sometimes seems to attract attention.

Tue Jul 27, 2004 5:13 pm

Yes, we never did trade/transfer items between the two accounts. We also have a truely different taste in pets (he likes Meercas and I like Aishas/Krawks, for example). There's also a major difference in NP and items between us, and we did sign up with different email addresses.

Thanks for the help guys! Now I can play my games with no fears.

You have nothing to worry about. If you notice, the rules say that you are limited to one main account to get freebies and play games on per person.

We have 3 family members who play daily and have done so for the past year and a half--sometimes all three of us are playing at the same time. And, after my daughter's account was unjustly frozen last December for giving away Christmas presents on the chat boards, I wrote the support staff to get the account unfrozen. In that letter, I made it very clear that I played, her dad played, and she played. When two support staff members wrote me back to tell me that her account was unfrozen, no one said diddlysquat about all three of us playing. So, I am sure that they realize that there are many, many households where there is more than one family member playing.

Neopets is family-oriented. I am sure they love it when after one family member joins, he then gets his brother, sister, mom, dad, grandparent,
and/or cousin to start playing also. Because that means more people looking at their advertising.

I am sure that they look for patterns in playing. They might have a problem if they see 10 accounts in one household and all ten accounts are going to the advent calendar or snowager at the same time.

Precisely. Unfortunately, they still make it hard for people within the same household to transfer items to one another.

For instance, my boyfriend has been looking for a Tyrannian Paint Brush since he joined (around 2 months ago). Now, if I were to come across one, I know for a fact that I'd be frozen (if not both of us) if were to neomail it to him. Granted, I could try the trading post, but even that's not entirely safe.

However, if I were to neomail the PB to anyone else it'd go generally unnoticed. Which, in my opinion, is just a little unfair. I mean, if you can send a gift to someone halfway around the world, why is it so wrong to send that same gift to someone who shares the same computer...?

I was frozen for "Using multiple accounts"(not that I was... I'm sure some of you have heard the story, as I mention it all the time...) so I can tell you what to not do. Do not transfer NP to ANYONE on your IP, or else you can get frozen. The Chances of getting frozen when you transfer is greater the more money you have. In my case, the IP they targeted belonged to a guy named stephen who had 15 Mil NP, and I think that had to do with it... so basically, do not transfer NP or items. And if you are rich, DEFINITELY do not transfer.

Eep. I have my main account, but on that account I have a gallery. I play games on that account, do dailys on that account, keep all my money on that account, shop on that account, and spend like 95% of my time on that account. So naturally, I need another account for a shop to sell things that I find or win, since no one likes to look through a gallery for something for sale. If I win a faerie from Tombola, I send it to my shop account and sell it there, then send the monye (via Trades) to my main account (wiht the gallery).

I'm so paranoid I'm going to get frozen, and I'm sure if I did and got in contact with Neopets I'd probably get unfrozen, but it's the fact that I'd probably never get in contact with them.

OK, I have my main account, a gallery and a lab account (I know, I'm nuts -- like that was ever in question?). I emailed support and was told that I can use the tp to send items/np to my OTHER accounts for shop upgrades, sending gallery items, food, etc. They said no problem. So, I do that, maybe once a month, but it's never alot of np, maybe like 25k or so, enough for like 2 shop upgrades and anything I've bought on my main for my gallery. I still hold my breath every time I do it.

Do not send anything you get from the dailies or RE from your main account your other accounts and never send anything from a RE on another account to your main account.

My problem is one that many of you have. My best friend uses my computer - she has her own email and account, we do not ever! access each other's accounts. She plays like 3 days a week. Now, sometimes we like to surprise each other, like I gave her a faerie pb and faellie for christmas and her birthday respectively...she gave me a shadow pb and a petpet pb for my birthday. Through the trading post. I've told her no sending of items using neofriend...period, I don't care if it's an omelette. I've actually put a moratorium on any sending even through the tp between our 2 accounts just in case.

I saw someone get frozen for multi'ing...a mom bought a pb for her son, used the neofriend option to send it to him. Surprise! Both accounts frozen for using multiple accounts to gain np.:(

So I don't know if you can even send a person on the same computer (with a different email, dob, name, etc.) something worth any decent amount of np through the tp safely. Stinks, totally and completely stinks!

Well I've been doing it for a while and I've been fine. Maybe I'll try to get into contact with support. Because I really see no alternative. I know how much I hate looking through a gallery for an item to buy. I don't use my shop account for any other purpose other than selling things I get in my main account and then sending the money back. So I don't know what to do.

Heres a way to stop getting frozen when changing your account access:
from powerpets wrote:Same cookie problem as before. Clear out your cached files before you change accounts.

To clear your cache files:

1. Open up your browser.

2. Click Tools - Internet Options.

3. If you have a "delete cookies" option, click that.

4. If not, click "Delete Files".

5. Click "delete offline content".

Once it's finished deleting, restart your computer right away (or close ALL your browser windows, and reopen one of them). Then sign on to Power Pets again, and you won't have any further problems. To make additional windows, please use ctrl-n.

It's basically from powerpets which has really good advice which they stand for.

Trust me guy I've transfered up to 100,000 NP. If u state on your userlookup why it happens (for me because I have multiple shops) then u should be fine. I've never been frozen/banned for my life.[/quote]

I think, like the previous posters have noted, that you'll be alright as long as you don't transfer items between accounts. In my quiet (well, except for the DNC! :x ) corner of the world, my brother and I both do the freebies and we're fine.
