I've been restocking on neopets for years. I have a super fast computer with a broadband connection. I mostly restock at the chocolate shop. I know the shop real well. Most often I forego competing to get that super rare item and go with the less popular moderately profitable item. Historically, I've done pretty well.
Lately, it's a whole new thing for me. I can hit that restock the very second it appears and I get nothing. 20 items there 1 second, 5 pieces of junk the next. It's my opinion that there is much more autobuying going on. It just doesn't fit for this to be natural buying. It's too consistent.
Keep in mind, I'm not slower, my computer is not slower, my connection is not slower. So what has changed??
Anyone else noticing the same thing?

I did some research on abing (i don't use one) and you will see the problem if you go to the gamerz planet forums and go to Neopets Hacks/Bots

People that cheat and use AB program make me sick.
We spend our time working hard to make money, having fun at the same time, while people load up one program, and sit back and let a program ruin the fun for the rest of us.
I'm still trying to get the chocolate avatar, but its becoming more and more difficult to get

Luckily i got the avatar once it came out. Anyway, in any game that you play Online. There are botters everywhere. No one can stop them. No matter what there will be one or two of these who will continue to remain. It is painful but what can we do?

Ive never restocked. The last time it was even feasible on 56k must've been more than 4 years ago. But seeing boards for the sole purpose of downloading cheats is ridiculous. It is expected, but it doesnt make the game fun for anybody. I dont see the thrill in running a refresher all day.

It depends on your broadband speed as well, I'm on 512k and I'm left trailing behind those with 1/2/4/8 Mb =/
Suffice to say I don't restock, heh. ABers I just don't get, why people would cheat at a game and spoil it for others. It's just sad really.

My own gut feeling is that there are a a lot more autobuyers out there than there were a few months ago. I wish I had an explanation, but alas, I do not.

Thinking about it, I think your message should be edited to take out the place you mentioned with the ABers, to prevent other people from wandering over there out of curiosity and getting them.
The last thing we want is for more people to be able to find them

Ack. True. Although if people really want to find an ABer, it's probably not hard to do. *sigh*
I was doing well with restocking until a few weeks ago. I think Neopets needs to change things up a bit with their images because eventually bots will come out that can deal with the images if they stay the same for too long.

I don't normally restock but I have noticed that items in shops are going very, very fast. There was a book for only around 150np, and I clicked on it right away. There were around 20 copies left, and half a second later it was sold out.

I have a really fast connection, too, but I can never get anything from the shops unless it's a worthless item.

i know that autobuyers are a problem, but I don't think that's completely what's changed.
A while ago, nearly a year ago now, I believe, Neopets redid the system that stocks the shops, so now instead of coming in a few at a time, like they used to, everything all drops in at once. So even if people were just reloading the page manually, that's thousands of neopians waiting to pounce all the time.
They seemed to think that this would help somehow, but it's really made things a huge mess. I certainly can't buy things directly from shops anymore.

I agree. Now, you basically have to luck out and reload the page exactly as the items come out. Or else you see the items, but it is already selling and by the time you click on the items, they are all gone
