For Neopets ONLY discussion.

Neopets messed up my profile again, in an incredibly stupid way. They changed all +es to †. +, †. See the difference? Do they look anything alike? No. And the real problem is that it messes up my CSS. I need those +es, they actually have real meaning.
So I sent the following into them as a comment... if anyone else wants to do the same, I'd be grateful.
In user lookups, a plus (+) has just been converted to †. This is just wrong: a dagger is taller, has the cross bar up higher, and in some fonts has serifs on the top and sides. There's no way you could mistake the two, and it looks bad to have one instead of the other. Furthermore, if you're using a + in your css (sibling selector, see
http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/selector.html) it completely messes it up.
Please change this back to normal, and let a plus stay a plus.
/me wanders off, muttering...

*stares at my profile*
Maybe it's the fact that it's only 9 am, but I can't see the difference.

Well that would be because you don't have any +s in your profile, wouldn't it?
In my profile, I had it so the yellow side/top bar stayed there as you scrolled. (Not in IE, but I don't care about IE, and my profile's messed up in it in many, many ways.) Now instead the whole profile is just offset. Quite annoying.
Also, I see they changed it in petpages too. I've already seen a few petpages with weird, not-quite-+ shaped things in them, where there obviously should have been a +.

Hmm, now it looks like a Christian cross
Maybe they are still fixing the coding from a few days ago? Some people had their cookies grabbed when they went to userlookups, didn't they?

The only crosses I see are those, and they still look fine to me, even at 10 am.

Hmm, well I know people were talking about this on the boards, but I thought it was something that you just typed in, like the ♥ to make a heart. I didn't realize that it had an effect on css - it doesn't seem that it should.
Lorcan, that could be it - they're still messing with their own code to be certain that whoever did what is fixed.

Xerophyte: Those are ones that neopets puts in, so they're unchanged. It's only ones you try to put in yourself that get messed up.
Lorcanwolf: It does kind of look like a Christian cross, doesn't it? Actually what it is though is that thing you always see for footnotes. It can be an asterisk or one of these.
I highly doubt this is related to the cookie grabbers. If it is, it's a _really_ bad way of fixing it.
everconfused: You can type it in yourself if you want, the problem is that now they're making it so ALL +s get changed to it, even the ones you want to be normal.
Where are people talking about it on the boards?

It happened in the Trading Post too -- I had written that I was seeking this + that, and it ended up the dagger (Latin cross). So something more universal than just the profile coding.

Want something that's also odd...?
Try putting the word Cookie (with a capital C) on your lookup. It reverts to cookie. (I think this happens on user lookups, I know it happens on petpages...)

I just got a Neomail where (from context) it's obvious the person was using plus signs. They came out daggers.

The plus signs are being changed to crosses on the Neoboards, too. I'm guessing that someone had found some way of exploiting them. I tried using the special code for the plus sign on the board
- Code:
+
but then I get a message saying I'm posting inappropriate or profane language.
