Gmail

Wed Jun 23, 2004 8:42 pm

I've got a Gmail account. Yoshi gave me the invite.
I'm mailto:optimus.87.ca@gmail.com
Gmail doesn't let you use underscores so I settled with that.

I wish I had one... I really want to see what they're like. I mean I can't really decide if I'm for or against it until I try it ;) And I really want to try it!

That explains why there's this utter frenzy about Gmail >_<

Yahoo.
100 MB.
No junk.
No Spam.

And none of the creepy aftertaste of Gmail.

Seriously... anything that people like this much has got to be the work of something evil...

mailto:dawnsglory@gmail.com

I chose that name because I used to use it on many petsites, back when I was a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan. Any Season 5 watcher will get it. Plus, Dawn is my name. You probably knew that. I would of tried dawn at gmail.com but you have to have six letters in your name. But, still- I have a GMail account! Yay!

FWEEEEEEEEE! Yoshi, you rule.

Well, according to Pam Dixon, executive director of World Privacy Forum, "Google's plan to scan e-mails for ad placement sets a new precedent of allowing a third party to comment on our private communications."
From PC World, July 2004 issue

But I don't really see any other problem.

And anyone on Yahoo expecting a Gmail invite should check their junk mail folder. Not everything in there is spam.

Yesterday I read of some unclarified privacy problems regarding Gmail that are really freaking some people out, but it's nothing that really affects me; shouldn't affect much of you guys either, unless you're talking about doing illegal stuff through email.

I talk about illegal stuff through other means. :)
But, yeah, it shouldn't be a big issue for most people.

Yeah I heard about that. But they already do that for searches. And I'd much rather have they're little text messages on my email then the spam I get in hotmail. And its not like they're actually reading my email, they're just scanning for keywords.

The privacy issues I heard of are on http://www.gmail-is-too-creepy.com - basically mentioning the possibility of Gmail (and Google) surrendering any information you have in their database...in a somewhat biased way.

As Gmail is still in beta, I don't expect their privacy policy to be perfectly written, really. If it actually comes to this and it becomes a large issue, then I might reconsider my views.

I don't have one. Instead, I have an email account with the family domain name, unlimited space, and enough security to give hacker and scammer alike a headache (like no secret question). I rarely use my email account anyway, so even if I wanted Gmail I wouldn't really need it.

Yoshi is now the proud new owner of my Mother and the left-hand side of my uncle Dave. Thanks again mate :D

Jim, do your relatives know you're giving them away in exchange for an email account yet? :P

If I get any invites from my account and there's PPTers still looking, I'm more than willing to give them out :)
