A look behind the scenes at PPT

Summertime is Here!!!

October27

summer-is-here Summertime is Here!!!

Summertime is officially here in Australia everyone! Well… spring really but I count spring and summer together as one and the same. Today, I woke up in brand new bedsheets (heck yes!) and to the golden rays of sunshine on my face woooo. Because of this, I lazed around, oblivious to the fact that there was current an episode recording (episode 35) of The PPT Show occurring at the same time I was having my laze-in.

So upon realizing my tardiness, I jumped onto the computer, set up a quick studio session and joined The PPT Show team in bringing you episode 35 of The PPT Show! Alas, despite our amazing hosting skills and hilarity, the podcast episode suffered some technical difficulties and didn’t work out. Noooooooooo!!! These things do happen occasionally however, so I’ll release an interview I did with Jonny in place of this week’s missing episode.

Speaking of which, you may be wondering why I’m half naked. I jumped straight to recording from my bed… and yes I do wear my necklace to bed. And yes, I do look this amazing when I get out of bed. Just kidding!

So the point of this post is that summertime/springtime is here, and with it the promise of many new projects and the launch of a couple that we have in the piplines! Myself, Jonny Blackler and Dave Moyer have a big surprise coming but we can’t really tell you guys more about it until it gets closer. Rest assured it will be amazing, it will be truly wonderful, and it will fill the lives of people with happiness, sunshine and laughter.

Speaking of which, PPT Oekaki Advanced will be opening soon. Staff applications have just opened from PPT Oekakai Advanced so if you’re a great artist and want to join our exciting community of artists, now is your chance.

So I’ll be off to the surf soon in the coming weeks as soon as my exams finish, and I’ll make sure to bring everyone from PPT with me. You’ll see me updating for the surfboard heck yeah!!

Cay’s Adventure at PPT Oekaki

October25

9076 Cays Adventure at PPT OekakiYes so… Cay had an adventure tonight. Cay does not enjoy adventures at 8 PM at night; especially if they involve her eye safety as illustrated here.

So Cay was casually, contentedly scrolling around PPT Oekaki when she decided, “Hey! I wanna change my template!” At the time, Cay had been using the one titled “Template” which is just solid black.

Once Cay reached the template part of the profile page, she started clicking through the templates. Suddenly Cay sees one called “Light”. “Ohh this one sounds promising. Oooohhh!” *click*

Much the Cay’s demise, when the PPT Oekaki homepage loaded, her template was now BRIGHT STINKING ORANGE. I am sure you can imagine Cay’s expression as her retinas were burned out and she immediately changed back to the black template.

THE END.

PPT Oekaki Advanced Staff Applications Now Open

October23

STAFF APPLICATIONS ARE OPENING UP AGAIN! You have from 23rd until the 26th of October to send in your applications. (Though due to different timezones entries may be accepted a day late if necessary.)

The advanced oekaki has been sat around long enough now, so I think it’s about the right time to open up staff apps once again. This time we need two to three willing members to mod at the advanced oekaki.

This time around members must have an account over 3 months old on the main oekaki.

Applicants will also be judged on their artistic ability this time around, because as this is an advanced oekaki they will be judging tryouts. Therefore those with good artistic ability will most likely be better informed when offering comments and critique to those who are applying. As it would be awkward to make each applicant go through the tryout process, your artistic ability will be judged by the previous artwork which you have drawn on the oekaki. So if you spam a lot or have a lot of unfinished pictures sitting in your profile, it’s not going to help you all that much.

Applications must be sent to Gfaerie ONLY via omail on the main oekaki. Those that are sent elsewhere may not be accepted.

Apart from artistic ability, we are looking for many of the same characteristics as previously searched for when opening the sketch oekaki. Those characteristics are as follows:

  • Members should be active and visit the oekaki frequently. There should be evidence of the user being an active commenter, at least. So if you simply lurk at the oekaki without logging in then this will not count as being ‘active’, as obviously there will be no evidence of your activity.
  • Members should be able to compare artwork and use their judgement to determine what pictures are and which are not classed as spam.
  • The users should refrain from being blunt or rude to other oekaki members.
  • If there is a dispute, they must deal with it in a calm and understanding manner.
  • Should be good at dealing with complaints and calmly explaining the errors of users’ ways. Must be able to provide a just argument for their actions for example deleting something as spam, which someone may really object to.
  • Preferably the members should not have been involved in any previous drama on the main oekaki, or that hasn’t posted any “I’m leaving pictures” due to the drama. (Or at least they shouldn’t have been involved in drama for a long time.)
  • As this is an advanced oekaki we will expect you to have good or above average drawing skills.
  • Must have been a member for at least three months. Older members are preferred as they are theoretically more familiar with the normal oekaki, and hopefully with the way things work.
  • We prefer members with easy-to-remember usernames, but this is not a necessity. If your username contains lots of confusing symbols then the chances are that users won’t omail you as frequently as they would.
  • Members wishing to become an admin should be capable of offering constructive criticism (without causing offence, of course). They should be able to identify mistakes and suggest ways in which the mistake can be amended.
  • Please take into consideration your real life commitments when applying: If you have a tendency to have lots of commitments week after week, then this may affect your ability to admin effectively. We’re not saying you can’t have lives outside of the internet, however if you’re never online how can you be an effective admin?

If you are applying to become an admin at the advanced oekaki then please register there and also take some time to familiarise yourself with the rules. The advanced oekaki is located at the following address: http://www.pinkpt.com/oekaki2/

Your application should contain a summary of why you think you would be suitable for the job. Use the above guidelines to help you write your application. Feel free to add a little humor, just don’t over do it.

As I did previously, I have compiled a collection of ‘what if’ scenarios, which should be sent with your application. Remember that there are not necessarily right or wrong answers to these scenarios, however they will give us an idea of what you would do in each situation. As an admin you would be enforcing PPTOA’s rules and when necessary using your own judgement.

  1. A picture has appeared on the oekaki’s front page that is not labeled as a tryout. The picture has been drawn by a new member, and judging by their profile this is their first picture post.
  2. User A has started their second tryout; however their previous tryout has been left unfinished.
  3. User A has posted their first tryout. User B, a friend of the artist, happily welcomes them to the oekaki, telling them that they’re bound to get in.
  4. Two admins have commented on User A’s final tryout. You, as an admin said yes, whilst another admin other said no to that user joining, meaning that there was a tie. What would you do?
  5. A user has posted a tryout. However when looking in their profile, it appears that they last tried out for the advanced oekaki only two weeks ago.
  6. After trying out a user has been rejected entry to the advanced oekaki. This member has not taken this decision well, and begins to post angry comments and rant pictures.
  7. After receiving criticism from an existing member, User A complains that the criticism was ‘rude’ and ‘too harsh’. The criticism was perfectly valid, however the user seems to have taken the comments too personally

If you have any questions regarding staff applications of the advanced oekaki in general please feel free to comment. Alternatively you can contact one of PPTO’s main administrators.

Behind the Scenes at Jonny Blackler’s Podcasting Area

October22

Hi everyone! So today we go behind the scenes at PPT and have a look at Jonny Blackler’s podcasting area. Yes my heinous stalkers and loyal visitors, this is where the magic of The PPT Show happens for our amigo Jonny Blackler. Let’s have a look throughout his room shall we?

So this is the area next to his desk. As you can see, there is a blue lava lamp which either isn’t switched on, or burns brightly depending on which way the switch is pressed. If you also look closely, you’ll notice some way hip and happening red caps. They’re from the Grand Prix or Formula 1.

Here is Jonny Blackler’s desk. He doesn’t really podcast here because our recording times occur quite late in Jonny’s schedule. He prefers to podcast at his bed.

That is a nice fan. I like that fan.

This here ladies and gentlemen is his computer screen. Notice his dedication and love of the game? We certainly do.

Alas Jonny Blackler’s keyboard is a bit worse for wear. There’s a missing F10, letter N and space bar. You may be wondering how Jonny communicates and does his essays without the much needed space bar but Jonny knows how to work around this; he simply uses his mouse.

There you have it! Inside the secret life of our very own Jonny Blackler. Until next time… dun dun duuuuunnnn!!

Contact Form and Submit Guide Form “Fixed”

October21

email-form Contact Form and Submit Guide Form Fixed

Hi everyone! How are you all today?

Gosh I kept receiving these email emails from the contact and submit guide forms for the past year and it never clicked for me that maybe possibly the forms weren’t working! So during routine maintenance today going through and checking everything, I discovered that there were in fact not working. *bangs head against desk*

They’ve been removed now and replaced with my direct contact email to make sure that this doesn’t occur again in the future.

If you’re a frequent user of the chat box, you’ll also notice that I’ve been dropping in a lot more lately just to say hello to all you chat box users and to make sure you’re all being friendly to each other. (Yes I do like to meet and interact with visitors to the site and always open to a friendly hello or to answer any questions you may have.)

Finally, I’ve made some small cosmetic changes to the layout (if you’ve got a keen eye, you will notice that I’ve added some “Recommended Sites” and “Faces Behind PPT” tabs to the right navigation.

Finally, the interview with Dave Moyer and his profile are up as the first “Faces Behind PPT” feature.
